lol yea lots of winching! we ran a red trail (hardest rating at the park) called cemetery. it being hard, even when its dry in the summer, made for a long but fun day in 10" of snow lol

Looks like you guys (and gals) had a blast! :yup:

yea it was a great time for sure!

This was a great time! I was super proud of Alana and think she did great with Lil-Punkin’.

Lil-Punkin’ on the other hand was a real bitch! We learned the rear locker doesn’t work. (The only part I haven’t reworked since purchasing the Jeep.) And the front axle that we have been limping along died about 30 miles after hitting the interstate.

We noticed a “whirring” sound and a slight left pull after we left the park, but couldn’t see anything at that time. The following morning we hit the road for home and shortly into the trip I smelled gear oil so I pulled over to investigate. Gear oil was everywhere on the driver’s side. I filled the diff (thank goodness I had fluid). And drove another 30 miles and checked it again. We had lost about a ½ quart. This wasn’t going to cut it with 400 miles to go.

We found an Auto Zone where I got some fluid and they talked me into some thick Lucas stuff. (I thought they were stupid but they only had two quarts of gear oil and they were letting me borrow a battery (more on this later) so I went ahead and got it.

So that battery… Well I found a crack in the driver tube. I carry welding rods, a cable and jumper cables for trail welding. I usually hope for a trial buddy to borrow a second battery but we were traveling solo so I needed another. I was amazed that they let me borrow one. (The deal was they would test it when I was done and if it was bad I had to buy it. Anyway I welded the crack with MacGyver style with two batteries and jumper cables and filled the diff with the magic oil and hit the road. (again thankful I had my tools)

We drove 50 miles and stopped to check again. Believe it or not the leak appeared to slow. I put in maybe an 1/8 quart and we hit the road again. At the next stop to check the leak had actually appeared to stop! This Lucas stuff really is magic!

Long story mad a bit shorter…. We made it home last night all in one piece. Tonight I am pulling the axles and carrier so Alana can drive in 2WD mode. Until I can prep Steve’s old housing…

Good think you had your tools. I recall Andrew telling you to leave them at home to save space.

That sucks! Glad you made it home alright. Let me know if you need any help.

You are right (kinda) He didn't tell me to, but suggested it as he packs similar to me I think and thought he had us covered. Truth is, I'm sure he did on the trail, but we were on our own after we left the hotel.
