Land Between the Lakes is in KY and TN and is closer to you. It has some good dark sky spots too.

Ha, I am actually driving to Kentucky this weekend for my wife's spring brake from school. I wish I can take my Jeep but my ball joints are toast..... will be replacing them next week.
Then I am doing doing Smokey Mountains summer time in the Jeep.

Yep, probably about a 2 hour drive from Charlotte. Thanks! It was really windy and cold, but it payed off.
