Exactly why. While it may work, I wouldn't do it. When you really need it and it doesn't work it sucks. Just happened to me with my shitty Chinese winch.

I have the new 1/4 pounder with the Zeon 10, I got it off Zorro.com when they had a 20% off sale and it was $805 shipped (if memory serves me correct, I know it was right around $800) and took 2 weeks as it was shipped direct from mfg. Here's a shot of it mounted. There is a little tab that goes inside the driver side of the fair lead opening for winches that are centered like the Zeon
