EV Awesomeness

EV charging stations in Carrizozo, NM. Courtesy of the state of New Mexico. No, I did not park in an EV spot, although they always seem to be available.

I lived in Ruidoso for a couple years in the mid 70's while in grade school. It's a beautiful area! I remember during ski season for about six weeks we could leave school on Tuesday's at noon to go skiing, the local shops would rent students ski's, boots and poles for a dollar and the Sierra Blanca resort would sell students a 1/2 day lift ticket for a dollar also. Parents had to provide transportation. It was a different time back then!

Sounds amazing. Think you just dated yourself there but yeah different times for sure.

Doesn’t it charge while driving though?
Since it’s a plug in hybrid it’s the worst of both worlds. In normal operation it operates as an ice hybrid charging the hybrid batteries with driving and braking. The plug in battery gets very little charge from driving at least that was my experience with my Fusion plug in. You could never fully charge the plug in battery by driving

Hybrids and plug in hybrids were potentially a good idea 20 years ago... With current tech and charging infrastructure across the majority of the country, BEVs are the far better choice. This big push to sell plug in hybrids leads me to think a lot of these car companies got behind on R&D thinking BEVs were not going to be a thing, and now they realize they are way too far behind the game and need to throw something together quickly. Either that or they are purposely sandbagging the electric experience to make people continue to buy ICE: buy the plug in hybrid that is the worst of both worlds, think the issues you have with the vehicle are because of the 'electrification', and then jump back into an ICE vehicle in future purchases.

Hoping things will change now that the US is red again, but seems like manufacturers have stepped too far into the puddle and I’m not sure if they can go back. Ford is pausing production of the Lightning though for example.

It’s really hard for the manufacturers to do any long term development and investment when they do not know how restrictive the Fleet Mileage regulations will be in the next administration. This is why laws need to be passed so the Fed Gov cannot mandate mileage. Oh yeah, and dissolve the EPA!

Gonna have to pull on the nomex for this... but I think the Lucid Sapphire is kinda badass. Looks like a honda accord and runs low 9's. I've always had a soft spot for sleepers anyway but damn. That thing is sooo fast.

I got nothing against electric and I think it's great that there are companies out there who are providing a product that consumers want. What I am against is being forced to buy electric and in the name of saving the planet. That to me is BS.

Please buy one and report your experiences here. Perhaps we will then all switch to electric cars!
