LOL!! That thought had occurred to me :)

Did the dowel test and got #1 at TDC. I really though I had it and maybe I still do but I'll need to address my fuel pump before I can test it.

Not sure if this will help, did you feel and make sure you were on the compression stroke ?
Now that I think about it, that's where I fucked up the first time around. ImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1463110435.073755.jpg

You can use a dowel Rod or the finger technique to see when it's TDC. I did mine with the head off the first time, and then with it on I use the finger over the plug hole. It says to use the technique in my manual !

I prefer the finger test over the dowel (yes you sick fucks) because with your finger you can feel the compression, as opposed to the dowel where you could still have tdc on the exhaust stroke by mistake.

Way off topic, but you should consider just getting a new wiring harness from painless. They are really easy to install and it'll eliminate all the previous owners work. That's what I've used on two of my old jeeps and I'm always way ahead of the game.

I agree, I usually finger it then dowel it, just to make sure I'm doing it right.. Lol

Great point. Feels like I'm talking to my dad. He's very good at building drag cars and tuning them.

Wrong forum, buddy....

Lol! What I meant to say is stick your finger in #1 cylinder and bump the starter until the compression stroke pushes your finger out of the hole. Next. Stick a long screw driver in the hole until it touches the piston. Crank the engine by hand using a socket and ratchet until the piston pushes the screw driver up to its highest point.

Now make sure the distributor rotor is pointing at #1 wire on the distributor cap.

Reposition distributor as needed to align rotor with #1 plug wire on the distributor cap.

Whatever gets the job done.

I wouldn't say I'm that up to speed. I used to live and breathe this stuff. I was all about eng performance but am pretty rusty now. All this talk definitely brings back racing and build memories.

Bingo. That's exactly how I've done it.

Okay - this is what I did but with a dowel. After I get my fuel squared away, I will give it another go.

Sure enough, the fuse was blown and replacing it got it working again.

If there is anything I've learned here, it's always check the fuses. [emoji6][emoji23] #m17 #webwrencher

Unfortunately, in spite of all my efforts today, Emma is still not running which really sucks because she went from running better than ever before to not running at all. Guess I'll have to give it another go tomorrow.

Well, it was sort of the fuse. [emoji35] Damn, hope your able to make more progress.

Geez Eddie what a pain in the ass! Sometimes it's best to give it a rest for the night and look at it tomorrow with a fresh set of eyes. I bet you get it running smooth my lunchtime tomorrow.

SHE LIVES!!! :wings:

Just wanted to post an update to let you all know that I finally got Emma up and running again!! As a few of you had guessed, I had clocked my distributor and set my TDC 180° off and on exhaust. After making adjustments to account for it and resetting #1, she fired right up and now runs better than ever before. Super happy with the new electronic ignition and would definitely recommend it to anyone considering it.

That being said, I'm STILL having an issue with the engine cutting out when I give it heavier gas from a complete stop. My next step is to try and address the fuel pressure regulator but for now, I think I'll just enjoy driving her around as is for a bit.

Thanks again to everyone for your help :thumb:

Yay!!! That's awesome! I bet you feel a great sense of accomplishment getting Emma running again...

Oh yeah - it was awesome to finally hear her come to life again. Crazy to think that so much joy can only come from so much hardship :yup:

Okay, still trying to track down Emma's engine cutting out when accelerating hard from a complete stop. In the process, I found that the old vacuum advance controller was toast. Simply can't get it to hold suction and really, can't get it to move at all.

Here's a new vacuum advance controller. You can see how it works and holds.

Here it is installed on the distributor.

And, while all this changed a whole lot of nothing, I was glad to still fix things that aren't working.

So, on to the next thing - I went ahead and installed a new Fuel pressure regulator.

While everything is now running so much better than when we first bought this girl, stage same problem still persists. On top of that, I found that coming to a hard stop will stall the motor as well. And, when I go to try to start it again, the carb is flooded. Still, I think I'm getting closer and so long as I drive normally, she runs great. Here are a few shots from a test run I did.

Beautiful rig. Those symptoms are actually the same as what I'm having with my CJ7.
Going to keep watching and see if you figure it out and I'll just follow suit
