Cutting shock boot off?

every time the shaft moves into the housing it gets a fresh coat of oil that is wiped off by the seal. The same seal wipes off just about everything from the shaft as it is compressed into the shock body.
 
I appreciate the do's & do nots, smart decision is to rinse the shafts really good once I'm home...thanks
