I have the Milwaukee Fuel 2 piece kit I mentioned some time back, so today I picked up their big impact, the 700ft-lb monster as a bare tool for about $160:

That works for anything on the site as well. They also have some other tool kits, but I would check against Home Depot and their $150 off deal if you are looking at a drill/impact driver kit, just to be sure.

Can anyone tell me the difference in the expensive ones and the one in the link below? It says it is good for 200 ft/lbs and is on sale.

Now that is not to say that it wont work perfectly for you for many years. But Craftsman also has a newer version with Lithium Ion batteries with 300ft-lb of torque available, looks like the one you linked may be a clearance/sale item.

I am not a heavy user of battery tools, and I have gone through several nicad batteries. Also, they do not hold a charge for too long, nor do they run as long.
It should be plenty strong for tires and much of the work you would do on a vehicle. But the extra power, and compatibility with other tools I have, and am likely to encounter is why I went to the Milwaukee.

There is no comparison between the $160 Craftsman and the Milwaukee listed above. The Milwaukee is a far superior tool. Craftsman is fine if you only plan to use it a few times a year.

Yup, that is the other one, with the 300lb rating. For some reference, Dewalt's first generation LIion was 300ft-lb, and their new one is 400.

Essentially the Craftsman is a home-owner quality tool vs a pro-quality tool. Choose the one that meets your needs. I doubt I will ever need the performance, especially on a regular basis, but when it was only $35 more than the cheaper option (bare tool, I already have batteries) with 450ft-lb, it was an easy choice for me.

If you arent prepared to spend $250-350 on a single impact driver kit, or are not set up for their tools otherwise, there may be better options for you.

Yeah, thats an expensive drawer. I didnt really look at the more powerful battery stuff until my mechanic friend stopped using air all together due to those SO tools, they swayed me pretty fast when I stopped in and spent the day at work with him. A few guys at the dealer were still on air, and some on cheap battery tools (and borrowing his), but they are nice.
