Coming up to Speed With Grubbicon

Can I ask you the reason why are you changing the spiderlock with steel wheels?
It is possibile to balance steel wheels?

I'm also looking for steel wheel. The reason for me is that an alloy wheel cost in Italy 550/600€ each....too much expensive!

The reason Im getting rid of the spyderlocks is because I got to get a 8 lug wheel. I got the steels this time because they are much cheaper. Id may get set of Camber Pro 2s one day but not now. The steel wheels should balance. My buddy didnt have a problem with them.

Thanks for the answer! I like your rig!

All the cast is finally gone and all factory mounts gone. Now to just get a sand blaster and start sandblasting.

Well with the cast done I believe that puts me at a stand still on the axles until they are sand blasted. So tomorrow afternoon if all go well Ill be putting the Jeep on the rack and start pulling it apart.

Thanks for the answer! I like your rig!
Thanks man I appreciate it.

Well believe it or not I got the Jeep up on the lift and the rear end out. To start I knew the battery was dead, but it was so dead my dads TJ near by wouldnt even jump it off.
ImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1447115294.063234.jpg
Ended up jumping it off with a jump box and got it up on the lift.

I first took the limiting straps off the rear so I could drop the springs out.

Took some more of the little things off then went to take the trackbar off. Then came in with the jack to pick it back up level.
ImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1447115523.994121.jpgImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1447115562.685692.jpg
Next the shocks and control arms came off. ImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1447115694.952424.jpg
After that I lowered the axle down and out the way.

Here is where I stopped tonight. Next Im going to take the shocks and track bar out then sand blast bolt the axles at once then get the mounts tacked up the rear and test fit it. After that or possible before Ill cut all the mounts off the frame that I won't need anymore. Then Ill full weld it all up and put the rear in for good. I havent decide whether Im going to put the ORIs in the rear before I pull the front apart and do it or just wait till both axles are in and do it all at once.

Well the shock towers showed up yesterday, but I forgot to mention it. Not sure if I mentioned earlier, but I got the standard height fronts and the tall height for the rear. After measuring the bottom of the tall tower Im not gonna lie Im a bit worried. Looks like for its width im going to have to either run the struts forward or backward if your looking from the side because of the track bar mount on the passenger side. I was really hoping to get them in there as straight up as possible so I guess Ill see what happens when i go to put them on.

The reservoirs for the ORIs also showed up today as well. ORI also includes the mounts to run them piggy back style which I did not know. I would like to run them that way, but not sure I can do that without the tire getting into them. I guess we will see on that when the time comes.

Those look fancy, nice they come with that clamp. Cant wait to see when you get started on the towers.

I am extremely torn on what to do considering I really wanted to mount them straight up. Part of me wants to swap it to double trianglated on the rear, but i dont see that being an option right now. Id also hate to change the rear arms after just getting those a year ago.

Grubb...reach out to Invest2m4. He has 14" ori's all the way around and did them with a junk yard swap. He will be able to point you in the right direction.

Ive been following his build he actually did 16" all the way around I believe not 14"s, but I could be wrong. Im gonna have to go back and look now that I think about it

Just my two cents here, might not be the best to reference someone that's only post have been in regards to him bashing the forum.

Well I took the shocks off and also took the track bar off to get it out of my way. Ended up sticking the sterling on the jack and putting it underneath the Jeep to check out and weigh my options on the trackbar mount.

A ended up talking to a guy that has helped me out a good bit so far on ideas (jeepfamily08 on IG). He ended up sending me pictures how he did his current Jeep and his last. Based off what he has done I have decided Im going to cut the track bar mount off the frame and make one later on.

Well started to sand blast the rear axle. Ended up calling it for today. We have been putting off getting a big air compressor for the shop and its finally time to get one.
EDIT: forgot to mention why its time lol. The compressor we have been using just cant keep up with the sand blaster.

rear is starting to look good :thumb:

Looks good man! Making some major progress I see. Shouldn't be too long till the rest is in

Thanks guys and I dont want to say that cause if I do it will take even longer. I guess my next step is cutting the bumpstops and trackbar mount off the frame and then hopefully after that we will have a better compressor and I can go back to sandblasting.

Well got a little bit of work done today but not much. I moved the brake lines out of the way and decided to cut the bump stops and trackbar mount off the frame.

I ended up after that grinding the driver side down. I decided not to mess with the passenger side because I know most of where the track bar was will be cut off so I didnt want to waste my time over there.

Im going to have to fill weld a few places of the frame, but I figured Id save that for later so I didnt do that and end up cutting those pieces off anyway.

Yesterday my dad helped me out and took my upper 3link mount to a friend of his that is a gun smith and has a machine shop in his basement to cut it down. Artec says due to the larger pumpkin it has to be cut down 1.24"s so we got that done.
ImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1448064375.951983.jpg ImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1448064392.554271.jpg

Today I actually start welding on the rear axle. I ended up welding the truss on. I start by tacking it into place then welding the top piece onto the side plates.
ImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1448064461.211445.jpgImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1448064469.313238.jpgImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1448064478.698983.jpgImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1448064487.280678.jpgImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1448064497.953927.jpgImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1448064506.682631.jpgImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1448064515.119546.jpgImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1448064522.901086.jpg

After that I ended up going and welding all the gaps even though it probably isnt really necessary. Artec says to heat the cast to 400 to weld to it, but personally I think thats a bit overkill. After welding the truss together I noticed the cast was already warm so I decided to go ahead and weld it instead of waiting then preheating.

Thats where I am now. I guess we will see in the morning if it cracks all up or not. It was hot when I was done, but it definitely wasnt 400 degrees hot so I think it should be alright. After Ill weld the top of it where the pieces fit together. I will also eventually weld the outsizes of the top of the truss to the axle tubes, but in the kit the coil buckets but up to it so its not welded. To get the lower control arm mounts in the right spot im going to do what they say just not weld the extra pieces up. Then after those are in place I will then weld the sides of the truss to the tubes.

Looks good boss! Did you weld the inside of the truss too or just the outside? Like before the top of the truss went on. I've heard of some people doing that

I personally didnt, but I thought about it. Doesnt show in the picture, but I tacked it while it was all together while Mike held it down and together.
