Code after oil change

The BAD Influence

Active Member
Following every oil change (I do it myself) I get code P06DE within a few days. I check the oil and filter, making sure everything is OK, then clear the code. All is well until the next oil change.
I changed the oil last week, and a day or so later, the code popped up. Did my regular check, then cleared it. But this time it came back. Cleared it, and it's back again. So now I'm worried something is actually wrong.
Any thoughts?
2015 JKU 80,000 miles.

P06DE - The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) senses the oil pressure is above a calibrated minimum threshold with the Oil Pump Solenoid commanded off for 250.0 seconds

possibly oil pressure sensor.
Are you running a heavier oil?

I always had my dealer change the oil and the last two times they can no longer get conventional oil it is a synthetic blend and ever since they converted over to synthetic blend I get that code if I stay in a throttle at high RPMs

its been a syn blend since Shell became the supplier. Only the Imperial was conventional. But I would suspect the majority have switched to full synthetic about 2 years ago.

Edit , sorry I should have stated that not all dealers are on the bulk oil program , so who knows what they have for oil. but any that are will be the shell oil, in Canada at least. but I suspect the same south o the border.

Bumping this thread up. Been having this code. Replaced the oil filter housing cause that was leaking and the oil pressure sensor to no avail. $1500 later at the dealership a new oil pump was installed and seemingly no more engine light. We’ll see if it last but pretty sure this P06DE is for oil pump from everything I read.

$1500 for an oil pump?! Ouch. Is it not accessible to so it yourself?

You have to remove the upper and lower oil pan. Basically the bottom of the motor. Pain in the ass doing it on the ground. Was like $350 in parts (dealer price) the rest was labor.

Still have a small oil leak as well that they told me was coming from the oil pan. Guess that wasn’t true. Not the first time I’ve spent a ton of money with that dealer and not had the issue fixed.

Cleared the P06DE (engine oil pressure control circuit stuck on) code a month a go... couple hundred miles later it just came back on. Any recommendations on the first step to take... or what is the most common problem could be? Just a Bad sensor?

Bad sensor OR if you are like me biting a quart every two weeks, you could be low on oil. That will set off the sensor…ask me how I know lol

Definitely not low... I checked. Hard to tell if there is too much... but I dont think so. I Changed the oil 700 miles ago... light came on for the first time about 4-500 miles after the oil change. Jeep only has 49,000 miles on it... I cant believe the pump would be bad already.

I’d double check the filter. I got this once because there was a filter change mid ‘13 or ‘14 and used the wrong one even though it was the correct part number or proper filter according to the parts store.

It's a Mopar filter... I'm going to drain some oil and swap the filter... see what happens.

I’ve been fighting this same demon for so goddamn long.
For me, it was the sensors on the back of the oil cooler. I couldn’t pinpoint which one so I replaced them both and did the oil cooler again since I was already there.
I also noticed some wear on wiring loom for their plugs and, noticed the shielding on the actual wires was starting to degrade so I repaired that section and that seemed to solve my issues (at least regarding the P06DD) code I kept getting.
All of my joy was short lived as the driver side valve train decided to cannibalize itself shortly thereafter. Jeep hasn’t been the same since.

Did you always get the p06DD code with the DE code? I'm only getting the p06DE

It’s your oil pump. Just bring it to the dealer. Same thing happened to mine. You could clear it drive anywhere from 200-1000 miles and it would come back. Does your Jeep show the oil pressure on the dash? What is it when driving?
