CB Radios - Which one do you run and where do you mount it?

I've decided to move up to a CB after running Cobra GMRS handhelds for a couple years and pondering over handheld alternatives to that, but I've had more and more people encourage me to get a CB.

Just wanted some input on what make and model CB you guys run and why, as well as where you mount them in your JK specifically. So far I'm thinking about the good old Wayalife CB bar or something mounted around the glove box or center console area.

I also have the EVO tailgate mounted carrier which has a nifty mount for an antenna, pretty stoked on that, so what do you all think?

Agree with Trailhunter, but I am running a Cobra 75 WXST. Handheld mounted on the passenger dash grab bar and the control box mounted behind the glovebox. Let me know if you want pictures or anything.

It only matters what the Jeeps you run with have really.... Are you running with guys that still run CB's? Seems like most are going to Race Radios and GMRS.
Haha funny enough yes! I'm usually the only guy with walkies. Totally agree though, my friends have been telling me get one for a while now. Still plan to keep my GMRS but think having both would be cool.

I'd love to see the box mounted behind the glovebox if you can! That's ideally what I'd want to do.

I have the same exact setup at Speedy... Even though I installed a very similar setup in GMRS, the Cobra brain is still behind the glove box so all I have to do is swap a couple wires and it's good to go. The Cobra 75 is a great unit.

That's good to know. I'd like to stick with Cobra too, that's all I've run for my handhelds I've had over the years.

The pictures kind of suck... I'm sure Speedy's are better.... but here was my install of it back in 2017:

Now see I'm also a massive advocate for zip ties. Thats exactly how I'd do it. Pics were just fine. Thank you kindly 🍻

Curious though, you ran it through the seam under the hard top - I was thinking I could run it through the hole where the wriring for my third brake light used to be, and then under the carpet all the way to the dash. Any specific reason why you did so? I take my Jeep's top off frequently so just wondering if running the wire through there has held up.

I ran the cable on the roll bar... just lifted the top a bit so I could get my hands up in there.

Here are a few pics of my President CB setup. I used a mount that I bought from Quadratec and a shorter Firestik antenna so it doesn’t rub driving into the garage. I am going to leave it as is and will probably just pick up a GMRS handheld for times when it may be needed.

I'm a big fan of the CB at the footman's loop. Makes for super easy install and the downfiring speaker is easier to hear when it's there.

I’m actually looking at running the uniden CMX760. It’s very similar to the cobra 75. That way I can mount it hidden and just have the mic out. For GMRS and hamm I was thinking about the front seats.

I run a handheld clipped into my overhead MOLLE panel. I have a firestick antenna wired up and terminates up in place for me to hook in. I then use a handheld mic on the coil. All so I don't leave it in the Jeep full time. Have the same setup for my GMRS handheld (GMRS Antenna not the Firestick of course).

I ran the cable on the roll bar... just lifted the top a bit so I could get my hands up in there.
I also forgot to ask, what antenna did you pair it with? I like to take the hardtop off frequently for topless drives and trail runs and wondered if that's an issue as well - seems to be a pain to have to dismount it every time I want to do so.

For the CB I always used a firestik. It passed the hardtop about 3-4”. I kept a longer spare tied to the rear roll bar but never used it. And I always kept a wrench at the top of my tool bag in case it needed to come off real quick.

i think they make quick disconnects for them as well.

Just saw a quick CB antenna disconnect for a firestik on Quadratec! That's probably what I'd do.
