Catalytic Converter Recommendations for 2008 JKU - Code 420

AJ Thanks for the additional info. I'm going to check in with a local exhaust shop to see they have any insights to work around the CA car but in AZ, although I'm not optimistic about it at this point. I have a feeling I'm going to have to pony up for some new (or maybe locate used) CARB compliant cats.

Get the Magna Flow cats. Magna Flow has done a lot of exhaust system research and their catalytic converters work well. They are not cheap. We installed Magna Flow cats in the Grand Cherokee and the Wrangler. You don’t want to cheap out on catalytic converters.

There’s a way to test for bad converters, but I don’t recall how. You should be able to look it on YouTube. A knowledgeable shop can test your converters.

Are you still happy with your Magnaflow cats? Any chance you have a picture of how they fit? I installed a set of the Jegs catalytic converters on my 2008 and the crossover pipe is way too low and blocks the transmission skidplate from bolting up. Curious to see if anybody else had any issues before I drop $1500 on them.

I've got the Magnaflow cats on my 2010 JKU, perfect fit. If it's not raining tomorrow, I can take a pic.
 
@MRGeep, photo of one side before installation. Both cats fit like factory. However, the exhaust smells odd. Turns out the #2 ignition coil has been going bad. It's fixed now.

Thanks guys. Unfortunately for me (and any other 2007 to 2009 JK owners) our cat system is different and is a single Y piece that looks like this (MagnaFlow's version at least)... 642-49689.jpg
 
When I was looking to replace mine, Magnaflow was the only cat I found that was OEM fit

I had bought another brand and didn't fit as clean as Magnaflow
