Best Place to live for Jeepers

Was wondering what everyone would consider the best region to live at for people who like wheeling/trail rides (and general 4x4 fun). Throughout the years most people seem to vote CO, then again people in WA would like to have a word if you said that. I am on the east coast and while there are some cool places here they all seem to pale in comparison to whats out there in the west/midwest. Thoughts ?

Without question, CALIFORNIA!! (y)
Aren't there more restrictive laws/rules around modding vehicles (including Jeeps) in CA though ? Also read somewhere recently that they started closing down alot of trails due to environmental concerns.

"restrictive laws"? That's a first for me and I've lived in CA most of my life. So long as you've got removable mudflaps, you can do just about whatever you want. The only issues you have there are with motor swaps. Smog laws there are the strictest.

That said, I have wheeled most of America and unless you like mud and tight trees, WA can't hold a candle to CO. As far as CO goes, it's crazy beautiful and they have some of the best trails for sure but a lot of that is limited to non-winter months. CA is a big ass state with all kinds of trails, TONS OF IT that you can play on all year long. You've got the mountains like CO, you've to tight trees like WA and depending on the time of year, it can be plenty muddy in places. Of course, the one thing that WA and CO don't have are the miles and endless miles of desert that you can explore, bomb across or play hard on in the rocks. And at least for now, you've also got big dunes you can play on at the beach.

Run, don't walk, run away from thinking about moving to California. Sure the wheeling is good, but moving here for the wheeling is like marrying a tranny because it's got nice tits. All my opinions of course, no trannies were harmed during the making of this post.

Yup i had the opportunity to move out there back in 2013 - I turned it down due to many reasons - was told i'd need to go on a waiting list to even get a place to stay, similar for my kids schooling - (this was mountain view). People in the bay area i felt were smug - very beautiful state but it just feel very restrictive and overbearing. Also vehicle insurance was going to go through the roof - crap gas (and expensive at that). Incredibly beautiful state though. I don't like urban areas and currently love in the boonies of VA. Was born and raised in FL so I got my share of mudding in back in the day. VA has its own set of nuisances don't get me wrong. We get snow here (especially alot in the Shenandoah area) but not all the trails close down - they don't seem anywhere near as fun as what i've seen out west (atleast the public trails). I guess that just means I need to expand my horizon a bit more.

2013? Oh it’s gotten way better since then.. If you like Crack, Meth, Being Homeless, Robbing convenient stores, Running through the streets naked preaching the Word of God, Trash on the roadways and shitting on the sidewalk… this is the place for you! And the Wheeling is Awesome!

Sounds like Heaven. I'd roll through there for some wheeling and then roll right back out of there. I'll probably take some time off work in the winter months for a wheeling trip out there - no plans on staying though.

Therein lies the answer. Move out west (just not all the way), take weekend trips to wheel in California and then escape. I'm aiming for Utah, Nevada, Arizona. I've heard Arizona is full, but the Arizona strip says "they'll never find a corpse out here".

Yea...WA is not it. While it is a beautiful state, it is not a rock crawling mecca. I would say Nevada might be the best location, because its a days drive to Utah, California, Arizona & New Mexico...not to mention all the desert trails in Nevada...

currently love in the boonies of VA.

I'm in the boonies of CA and love the area... Nearest "urban" areas are over an hour away and aren't even too big of cities, Reno NV in one direction and Chico CA in the other.

But it is California and I'm still stuck with woke politics, high taxes, and high gas prices indefinitely.

Well, we are currently in California (unfortunately) and have family in both NV and AZ. I must admit California does have a vast variety (beach, desert, mountains etc). However, if I could live in Moab, I'd die a happy Jeeper!

I live in the four corners. It’s pretty cool. 1.5 hours to Silverton, Co, 2.5 hours to Moab and so much wheeling here in Farmington during the winter. A lot of tough trails here but lots of fun. All kinds of exploration to do out here. Nice weather and cheap housing and 20 minute from Colorado.

Maricopa county (which is what most people consider to be "Arizona" since that is where most people live) is "full". The main concern these days is the dwindling water supply. If you move to Arizona be prepared for water issues, which could be a sudden lack of tap water, or a black/brown wall of water headed for your house.

CA.
Unfortunately, CA gets the bad rap because its major cities and the people in them. But you can say that about almost every state. I think CA has more opportunity (miles of trails) to get out and explore places than anywhere. Regardless of the time of year you can easily find a place to explore and the terrain you enjoy. And I still to this day don't understand the "restrictive" CA comments. Outside NV and AK we have the most BLM land. Outside AK the most National Forest, largest national park collection and the largest collection of state parks.
Been CA kid (40+yrs a kid still?) most my life and I can still say CA has amazing things for me to see that I have never laid eyes on. I might be biassed :p

THE Arizona strip is a Neat Place - it's Utah for me - We live in a Motorhome so wheel in Utah, Nevada, Arizona, Colorado all year long

Your forum info says that you are from Burton, Ohio. That does not sound like California to me!

Other than the gas prices, California is excellent to visit, but it is not so good to live there anymore due to weird restrictive rules and ever higher prices. My family still live there and they continually complain about it, although they continually take advantage of the outdoors.
