Bed mounted spare or none at all?

I run 35s and carry one spare AND an ARB tire patch kit.
Depending on where and how you wheel having one spare could mean going home by yourself or not.
In Australia many folks ride with two spares because in some trails with burnt twigs, those can rip unrepairable holes in the tires.
For only city use it's unlikely you would need a spare. Just carry the patch kit (and the air compressor, of course).

I'm just don't want to circum to the fact that I am being cheap and need to add more weight to the back of the Jeep. :icon_crazy: Let me bang my head into the wall for a while before I break down and buy the full swing out carrier. BTW, do you know if it will work with the Evo aluminum corners, or is it better to weld the mounts to the steel corners.

Big Prince, that is the first JK I've seen running 42" Trep stickies on this site. Do you have street meats as well and do you have a build thread? I'm curious if you went sky high to clear the tires, trimmed the heck out of the body or limited up travel.

I've seen multiple guys running 40" sticky Treps, a couple running 42" sticky Treps and probably 10 guys running 43 SXs. Hell I plan on going with 43s once my new build gets going lol.

But I've seen Princes Jeep before, it's not sky high or cut to hell. It's set up just right for those tires and goes up everything he points it at.

I'm sorry, I read through so many posts it can be hard to keep them all straight. Which tire carrier are you looking to install? The EVO one like I have on my JKs?

Correct. I have the new style Evo now that mounts to the tailgate. I was concerned about using it with a 40" tire and tweaking the tailgate if I bottom the spare out on a ledge. What do you think? Should I go to the original style like you have with corners or am I over thinking it?

Honestly, it's a legitimate concern but one that doesn't seem to bother Mel. He's running a 40" spare on Spicy Chicken and using the tailgate tire carrier he makes. I don't know where you go out to play but even in a place like Moab, good spotting can go a long way. Of course, if you'd still like to address it, you might want to consider having a hitch stinger made. I used to run one back in the day just for this very concern. It's cheap and works well - a much better solution than going spare-less or carrying one inside.

Hmm - I'm at 4 inches of lift with 5" of up-travel and it's going to take a LOT of trimming to clear my 40's.

Yeah, shoot. I'm not crazy about the stinger, but have some left over 2x2x.250 laying around. I put my tailgate mounted carrier for sale and have a good 8 weeks before my axles even ship, so it's not an immediate problem, but one I want to work out before Moab this winter.

Got it. Well, you'd have to confirm with EVO but their tire carrier does bolt through the body so I would think it'd work.

I think usmcwrangler has one, by simply flipping a drop insert upside down.

Do you HAVE to weld the mounts onto the skins or can they be ran as a bolt on as well?
