ATX Slabs: Lets see them!

AWESOME THREAD... but I agree, this makes me hate everyone!

OK, OK, OK STOP PLEASE!!! (actually don't)

Love the wheels, just mentally added them to my "need" list for the pumpkin. Question for the group, I see a common theme that these are not a balancing issue, in fact MOST of the post indicate that you are running them without any balancing done and no issues...

Is anyone using the internal balancing ceramic beads? DynaBeads is the product name I believe. The concept seems solid, just would like a real person to report how they work?

(I was going to post a product link but do not want to inadvertently violate any forum rules or advocate for a specific product - especially one I know nothing about...)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the need for balancing or lack there of has nothing to do with the wheel, but actually the tire. From what I understand the reason many get away with not balancing them is by running Nitto's. These tires tend to be very balanced. Other tires may require the need to be balanced and I would think that Dynabeads would be the way to go if you couldn't find a place to balance your tires.

I think this is accurate, but did not pay attention to the tires in these post, I run nitto tires on my dodge ram (dd) and they balanced out easily - stock dodge 20s. Don't think I would want lead on the outside of the slabs.... Don't think there is a lot a space to put them anyway....

Armydog, to back up your thought, I've heard many people describe their balancing issues and it always comes down to a shitty brand of tire. One guy locally was running 37 oz of wheel weights to try and correct his cheap Chinese tires being off balance.

I've also heard reports of people not being happy with their DIY Dynabeads (air soft pellets) as well. Either they don't seem to do the job right, they're too loud, etc. I think I might try running mine without Dynabeads at first when I get my tires (Nitto/Toyo) and if I have any issues, then I'll unmount them and add some Dynabeads to see if that helps. No sense spending $20 a wheel if it's not needed.

Now, just so I'm not off topic, here's some Slab love :blush:

i know there a few people on here that run nitto/toyos on slabs and havent had them balanced at all. they say the combo is perfect and no balancing is required. im sure eddie, gcm2 or someone else will confirm for sure.

Correct, I have never needed any balancing with Slabs and Nittos. In fact last January while pre-running for King Of The Hammers in EVOJEEP, I managed to get two fairly sizable sidewall punctures in my Mud Grapplers (both front tires). I followed Mel back to Off Road Evolution and we pulled the cut tires from my ATX Slabs, mounted two new Mud Grapplers up front, used zero weights to balance the tires, and then I drove 400 miles from Fullerton, CA. back to Scottsdale, AZ at 75-85mph. No issues, ever.
 
Here is a pic of our family Jeeps with ATX slabs. My wife is running 37" Toyo's with no balancing on her JK. She gets minor vibration above 65-70 mph, but nothing significant. I'm running 40" Nitto's with no balancing and no vibration even at 80 mph (which is legal on some highways in Texas). :thumb:

thats for confirming this Greg! hopefully someday i can get slome slabs and upgrade my 35 mud grapplers to some 37's!

I agree on the tire size. It is an optical illusion. Here is a different pic where the rear tire size looks the same as the front.

You know on a few other forums, people comment that all of the EVO'd out rigs look the same, are generic, run all the exact same wheels/tires etc. Even though I sort of agree, I still think our rigs are some of, if not the best, looking jeeps on the road today. Great looking pair of jeeps you have there, here's to being a copy cat :rock: :beer:

I guess I'm okay with being called be a copy cat of Greg's ride, Eddy's Moby, and any other one that came before me. I think in some way I'd be happy if someone built a rig like mine not just because it looks good but because it also does what it was built to do, and that's wheel where ever I want with out concern......:thumb:

Well your rig did inspire me Dave. I've seen it several times and I think it is perfection. Done just right everywhere and not overdone anywhere.

Well, being over here on the east coast, that look is far less common so it's easier to stand out a little. I'll take it.
