Advice on Metal Cloak

Hey all,
Looking into Metal Cloak as a lift option. specifically the 3.5 game changer. I have some concerns im hoping some of yall might be able to answer.
  • the true dual rates have always seemed gimicky to me. My JKUR had dual rates (non-metalcloak) and i ended up replacing them with EVO plush ride. Im concerned the MC springs will be stiff as fuck.
  • are there durolast joints actually durable?
  • whats your overall customer experience with the company.
Thanks in advance.

I am not a fan of MetalCloak and don’t have personal experience. Many people here don’t like them, in fact we call them MetalJoke.

I do know people that run their lifts, and their experiences are mixed. I have seen on multiple occasions control arms break in half lol. The diameter of those things were so small it was stupid. That right there was enough to keep me away, and I was looking at them to replace my AEV 2.5 lift. Also, not a fan of the color. Now my friends girlfriend runs their lift and hers, so far, is fine.

Awesome pic on your post. 👍🏻

thanks for the feedback, Those are all fair statements.

If you were happy with eco the first time and not the dual rates why would you go back to dual rates?
The dual rate i had before were Rancho's, not a brand I would have bought on my own. They seemed very stiff and i questioned weather or not the dual rates actually helped outside of being fully articulated. Why not go back to EVO ? Well i like to try new things, and Metal Cloaks true dual (according to Metalcloak), seems to have figured out how to do dual rates correctly.

Here's Metalcloak's own animation of how retarded dual rate springs are. This goes for everyone's BTW
Why on earth would you market a spring that has the upper portion basically in bind 100% of the time on the road? It's no more than a spacer.
To do dual rate properly you need two separate springs like in a coil over setup. Triple rate springs are even dumber. Just go with a kit with true coils.

I ran there stuff on my JK the control arms and bushings never gave me any trouble. I know a couple people that have years on them without any issues.
I wasn’t a fan of the springs and rock sport shocks. I’m currently running there long arms on my TJ with rock jock springs and Bilstein shocks and it works great for me.
Ride is subjective everyone has an opinion on ride quality.

Awesome shot - WOW!!

1. Not all dual rate springs are "gimicky", they just don't work as well as they are advertised. More times than not, you end up completely loading up the soft end and then always ride on the firm end. In that way, they're just kind of lame. The problem with MetalCloak is that they're actually designed to be a single rate coil that allows for a greater amount of shock travel and without becoming unseated at a full droop. So, if you like the quality of the ride their coils provide, I suppose they'd give you what you'd hope to have with a single rate set. Of course, ride quality is 100% subjective.

2. I have personally seen the Durolasts not be so durable. But then, no joint lasts forever. That Metal Cloak claims their joint are somehow superior and won't fail like their competitors is the only thing that's lame.

3. They're a good company when it comes to customer service. Their fanboys love them.

I've run the Rancho Crawler suspension system which has their dual rate coils and thought it rode great. Clearly, more proof that ride quality is 100% subjective.

This is all well said. I may just return to EVo plush ride 3.5 and Bilstein 5100 shock and call it a day. just had the itch to try something new.
That’s what I went to after the AEV lift, it definitely was great on all terrain except the desert. Loved those RS7MT shocks too.
are you still running the Rancho Lift? hows it holding up?

No, I went to EVO long arms and King 2.5 coilovers because we’ve been doing a fair amount of desert runs and I really love the speed out there. Otherwise, I definitely would have stayed with the Rancho because on the rocks, dirt roads and asphalt were great.

It seems like the intention of the springs is to make sure they don't fall off at full droop. There must be other ways to accomplish that. Regardless, if there is no pressure on the tire at all (other than the force of gravity due to the mass of the tire and axel), it is not going to help very much.
