Adams 1310 Front Driveshaft Vibration

For what's it worth, my local shop said they had multiple adams shafts that were out of balance when new. They only use Toms driveshafts now and haven't had an issue. Second hand information, but I would either send back to adams or have a local shop check balance.

LOL!! I've seen Tom Woods shafts out of balance right out of the box but that'd be the least of my concerns - I'd be more worried about the piece of crap "gold seal" Chinese u-joints that he uses unless you know enough to pay to have them upgraded them to something better. But, I would agree, it's not totally uncommon to get a new shaft that's out of balance and if the OP's is out, I would send it back and have it rebalanced. Sucks but really, what are you gonna do. In a lot of ways, this is why I like using local shops.
 
I don't think you're having the same issue but when I install my Adams DS I had to trim my transfer case cable bracket. It would rub on there and cause vibrations.

That transfer case cable bracket is not even funny!

Got my big ass project all done. Got up in the driver seat and started to back up, right away I could hear a loud click-click noise.
Checked everything. (see the whole time I was doing this project I was afraid i would really eff something up bad.)
At first it sounded like a bad u-joint or something hitting in the transfer case.

Well anyhow after checking everything I could think of I remembered some thread someplace about having to trim that bracket. It is like a 1/2 inch that your need to trim off the brackets lower piece.
Was kind of a bitch to do as I did not want to remove a bunch of stuff so I reached in with a small hacksaw blade and holder, cut it and all was good.

I had a photo of it until I got the dreaded Crytolocker virus while searching for midget Sasquatch porn.

If this is the case OP it would really make one hell of a vibration. Of course it depends on how much its hitting I guess. BTW I am running Adams 1350's so they might be bigger? Smooth as glass right out of the box.
 
I checked my pinion angle and it is at 91 degrees. I checked my buddy's JK with 3" Enforcer and EVO control arms with a 1310 front driveshaft and his pinion angle is 92 degrees.

On a stock d44 or d30 there's 6 degrees of separation between pinion and caster axis. If you are seeing 91 for you pinion it means you have 5 degrees of caster. It might be worth increasing pinion angle up to see if vibes decrease. Good luck. I hope it's an easy fix for you.

Had one more thought. Did you reinsert the black rubber ring into the new t/case yoke before putting the nut on?
 
In a lot of ways, this is why I like using local shops.

Yea, yea, yea. Lesson learned the hard way. I should have listened. I called some driveshaft shops in Denver and they wanted over $600 for a 1310, so that is why I went with Adams.
 
I have been seriously considering Adams as well, good price and free shipping, although I like to buy local as well. Anyone in Phoenix area have any recommendations for a driveshaft shop that makes quality shafts at a reasonable price?
 
I checked my last alignment sheet and my caster is set at 4.0 degrees with the control arm drop brackets. I was just using my iPhone on the pinion flange when I checked yesterday. So that means I have 2 degrees facing up on the pinion. Hopefully that is enough angle!

I also checked the 1-1/4" transfer case nut with a rented torque wrench and it is at 160 ft-lbs so that should be good!

The guys at Adams have been good to deal with. They are shipping out a replacement shaft and I'm going to ship the current one back. Hopefully it bolts up and is smooth as glass!

Hope so. Also i would make sure your control arm drop brackets are tight as hell too. Just an FYI.

Good to hear they are taking care of you. In my dealings with them they were also very responsive. I have a 1350 from them and once I torqued the t-case nut properly, it was smooth sailing.

Hey Petzl, did you find out if it was a balance issue? Curious what the cause was. Especially if all is good with the new shaft when you install.

I didn't get the replacement shaft yet. Maybe it will be here today or Monday? I have just been driving around with the front driveshaft out this week.

I'm thinking about pulling off these control arm drop brackets, just to make sure I cover everything before I go to Moab next week. That way I at least have some more pinion angle and then I can get some adjustable front lower control arms to dial in the caster. What do you think?

I really hate to change two things at once when troubleshooting, but it will get rid of these brackets, start fresh with no driveline vibes, and then dial in caster?

I would get driveline on first and recheck. I'm not a big fan of drop brackets on control arms since adjustable arms are available. It's just one more thing that can loosen up at some point. But that's just me. Either way, if your new driveshaft fixes the issue, no need to mess with the brackets.
 
What WJCO said. If the new driveshaft had the same problem then start playing with other components. My guess is you'll be good to go with the new shaft.

I took it in to Front Range Driveline and they balanced it for 50 bucks. I've been driving the last week or so without a front DS so the feel in the front is different, as in I can feel there is a driveshaft there, but there is no drone or no vibration, even up to 85 mph.

Right on, good to hear. What was the story from Adams though? Did they end up sending a shaft after all or make it right by you in some way?

They didn't send a new shaft because it would have arrived after I left for Moab. I need to call them on Monday.

There is a slight vibe on the highway around 65 mph but it goes away when I get faster than that. Maybe I ditch the brackets to be vibration free.

Gotta go wheeling....
