A Dirt Head's JK

Some photos from our quick trip today! Didn’t take too many as I’ve posted up this trail before, but I was showing my buddy who hasn’t run it before.

Unfortunately, I found that my driver’s side axle seal seems to be leaking once again. In all fairness to my Jeep years apart but still, not a fun job. I’ll start tackling it piece by piece starting next week thanks to having the truck to drive while this sits on stands. At the very least doing this twice now has me more confident to regear it myself as well! (No way I’ll WANT to crack it open a third time lol, probably Disciple’s problem then 😁)

Looks like a great day out on dirt. Definitely a bummer on the seal, easy fix but a pain to get too. If you ever decide to try gears, always a phone call away for help/questions 👍🏼

Having a hard time finding front axle shaft seals for the 2018 JK specifically. Everything I’m finding is for 07-12.

Curious why that is as last time I got it via VIN from my old dealer and didn’t bother looking at the part number or anything.

Any chance one of y’all could direct me to the correct seals?

This should be it:

You just need to look for a 2017 JK

Perfect thanks Eddie!

Have had to put this on the back burner for being slammed with the final phases of “school” but am getting this done within the next couple days because I’m transferring to a bigger apartment unit in the same complex. (Current one has mold, they wanted me to relocate for 4 to 6 weeks while they tore down the kitchen counter and removed the floor, I said nope get me into another unit then) Luckily they matched my rent for a bigger pad and with a closer detached garage. Long story but mainly because they didn’t want to compensate me properly for staying at an extended stay hotel or something of the like.

Here’s where I’m at now: Shafts out, tie rod off, fluid drained and cover off. Pulling the gear next and getting cracking on the seals - then to put it back together. And yes, its already dark out 🙄

early dark sucks, seem like no matter how early I start a project, it's dark halfway into it
