Took our 47 Willys out of hibernation this weekend after being mothballed for several seasons. Have been unable to dedicate time due to other life events. It's been in our family over 5 decades, and had a body off mostly cosmetic refresh about 10 years ago. It hadn't been in running condition for many years prior to that. During this refresh it was put back into running condition. The drivetrain and suspension was left alone and could use some attention. It was running when parked but all systems will need to be inspected/cleaned/lubed/charged prior to start up. I've been anxious to get some current pics to share with the Wayalife community.

Down the rabbit hole... As I am bringing the CJ back to running condition I discovered the water pump is leaking and needs replaced I thought, since I'm doing that the engine really needs to be painted, and to get decent results I'll need to remove the manifolds, plug wires, etc. for surface prep. So off they come. The oil filter lines are cracked so those need replaced. The manifolds were pretty crusty and required a couple hours of dedicated effort to remove surface rust, old paint, and years of crud. Of course they didn't just come apart, I broke three of the four bolts that hold the two together, add some bolt extraction to that effort. And hey, since the manifolds are off I have great access to the steering gearbox. It's always had a lot of play, so after some inspection it needs removed and new bushings and sector shaft installed, but to get that out the left front fender, tire, and driver seat need to come out. Got it removed and it's super gunked up and next on the list for cleaning/rebuild. Now that the steering gearbox is out the master cylinder is easily accessible, better give that an inspection and confirm all the brakes are adjusted and working properly. My parts list for Kaiser Willys is growing rapidly! It's a labor of love and looking forward to getting these items addressed and re-installed. Hey... do those leaf springs look like their sagging a bit?
