40” spare where?

Wondering where you are carrying your 40” spare.
I know all the cool kids have stopped carrying one, and there is a time & place where that works. But when it doesn’t, wondering what is the consensus on where it should go without taking up every last inch of the bed.

And yes, I carry glue tread, patched my nephew’s sidewall gash and it works amazing.

Unfortunately, the only place I've found to work the best with my 42" spare is in the bed. I use a tire strap to hold it down and added a third point on the floor of the bed to secure it in place. Totally sucks that it takes up so much space but I've found creative ways to pack around and on top of it. I used to have it on a bed rack but hated how heavy it was up there as you could really feel it on the rocks. Also, bombing across the desert, it ultimately destroyed the rack and attachment points on the bed.

Thanks for the input. I’m thinking flat in the bed is probably the only option. I’ve seen folks carry them on bed racks but I’ve heard similar stories of destroying the rack.
