35" Tires on a YJ

So my friend just purchased a 1987 YJ with a 4" lift and was looking to upgrade the wheels and tires. He would like to run 35x12.5x15 but has heard that they won't fit. Anyone out there have experience with this and know what he would need to do to run 35's?

4" will fit 35's ona YJ without any issues. Very old pic of my Jeep on 35's on 4" (circa 1999 at the Gatekeeper). I did trim my fenders, but no issues before even with stock fenders and flares. One suggestion is to lightly trim the stock yj flars or swap in Tj flares for a bit more room.

What size tires were they? 35x12.5?

I trimmed mine as well. Did a little trimming on the rear too. ImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1457144390.358941.jpg.
This was with it flexed in the rear. ImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1457144432.128086.jpg

My YJ has 4" of suspension lift and 1" of body lift and I'm running 35x12.5x15's on 15x10 wheels.

This is my YJ from back in the day, 4" Pro Comp lift, 1" body lift, stock YJ flares and 35"X15.50"X15" Super Swampers. No issues of rubbing that I can remember, only problem for me was that D30, those Swampers wore that thing out!

I have a 4 1/5 rough country lift. No fenders, and 1.5in spacers on my wheels to fit my 35x12.5x15 generals
