After selling my 2012 JKU sport 3 years ago, I've been away from JK's since then cause life hit; got married, bought a house, had a kid, and opened up my own shop...but I"M BAAAAAAAAACK!!!! Just picked up my dream Jeep, a 2015 Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon Hardrock in Anvil!!!!! All that's missing are the red leather seats like in the 10th anniversary edition. But, we are building it as a shop jeep and wanted to share the ride with you all!
I bought this JKUR from an auto auction and couldn't be more excited. Just to get the story started, I live in Chicago and this JKUR was in Tallahassee, Florida. I decided to take the drive down there since we have just under 4 weeks to get this build done. 372 miles into the trip, the truck I borrowed from a friend, 2012 Silverado 3500HD dually diesel, went into limp mode, threw the check engine light and I had to limp it to a dealer 18 miles away. That ordeal took about 7 hours to get fixed and I was back on my way. But, made it there an back within 42 hours.
We took this think apart yesterday and found some more damage than I was hoping it had (i knew it, but wishful thinking). I knew the front diff was bad, but didnt expect anything with the engine. For now, we took apart the front end, gutted the front dana 44, and found the front timing cover and valve cover are cracked. No damage to engine though (hopefully).
That is where we are at as of now.
Below are two pictures, one at the auto auction when I picked it up, and the second is as it stands this morning. About to load it on the trailer and take it to my brothers body shop to straighten front section of frame where the bumper bolts onto and paint!!!!! Once back from paint, we should have some parts to piece it back together...
Plans so far:
- 3.5 inch lift kit (need assistance with which lift is good since the only experience I had with lifts were on TJ's)
- 37x13.50R17, probably Cooper Discoverer SST Pros. We put these tires on a customers JKU and he loves them
- Tube fenders (still don't know which brand)
- Poison Spyder body mount tire carrier
- Red leather from Katzkin (might have somthing embroidered in them, don;t know yet)
- Inner fender liners with the shop name cut into them
- RIMS ------- no idea yet. Looking for 17x9's, but there's way to many rims to choose from
And that's all I have time for since my wife is yelling at me to get back to work!!!
