After having a shop double check my lift kit I installed, they noticed a loud whine. Tbh I am a noob (clearly) so I thought it was related to my tire wear pre upgraded tires and then just larger tires being loud. Turns out it was the rear differential.

They didn’t want to make it a warranty fix at first since I didn’t change the fluid exactly at 40k but they ended up doing it. They had my vehicle for 12 days…. Ubering to downtown HTX got expensive (work). I didn’t wheel hard or even do anything crazy. I suggest people check their fluid and change before 40k if they have a new model just to make sure the dealer can’t even attempt the bs. More of a rant here. Thanks all.

Sucks. I know they changed the rear pinion bearings to a shitty roller bearing design to “increase fuel mileage”. It’s the reason all the aftermarket gear companies use a normal bearing on the pinion on gear swaps.

What companies are switching over? Will be cool to start seeing that. We are still seeing the OEM style in Revolution/Spicer install kits.

Woah they charged 370 bucks to change diff fluid?

Did the service documentation (user manual) you got with your Jeep say to change the differential oil at 40k miles? This sounds like a recommendation if your vehicle is used for towing or some other severe duty service.

Dealerships suck if you faithfully bring your Jeep in routinely for service and they do not follow Jeep's service plan for your VIN. To many of them want to offer needless types of service which assure high profits and no value to you.

they lied; glad they did the warranty work (as they should on a 2024) but they lied about the warranty work if you do it yourself.

So long as you use the recommended oil/quantity as listed in the owner's manual and they can't void the warranty, or else they'd also void the warranty if you had it done at a lude center. Now, if you didn't put the drain plug nor cover /9if removed) back on properly and the oil drained out... that's different. But also, something the dealership could easily do and still try to blame you.

They want to scare you, so you'll return for overpriced service.

Contaminated oil, hmmm... wonder if they actually tested it or if the chunks they found are their qualifier.

Did they explain to you how to break in new gears?

you're right, it's the 40,000-mile service interval IF:

"Change front and rear axle fluid if using your vehicle for police, taxi, fleet, off-road or frequent trailer towing."

I am glad I’m not crazy. I was like????!!! 0 percent chance it should have taken 12 days. I am pretty sure they ordered me a new diff cover so I imagine his fix for stripping the nuts wasn’t the best

They didn’t explain to me how to break them in. I would absolutely love if you are volunteering.

  • The first drive on the new gears should be under normal driving conditions (No hard starts, No off-roading, No racing, No towing.)
  • The Jeep needs to be driven around 15-20 minutes around town under normal driving conditions. Then the Jeeps axles need to completely cool before driving again - approx 1 hour (I gauged it by the touch on the diff cover, 30 min-1 hour)
  • Repeat this 15-20 minute drive procedure 2-3 times.
  • Then drive on the highway and repeat the cooling process at least 2 times. Do not exceed 65mph for this step.
  • At 500 miles the differential oil needs to be changed, then the process is complete.
  • *If towing: After the first 500 mile oil change, keep the first towing to less than 15 minutes and allow the axle differential to completely cool, repeat 2-3 times.

So is this something I need to do with the repairs they did? Tbf I probably did it with driving home and then to the gym and then to work today got around 65 mph.

Basically do I need to track the 500 then change oil? Or should I assume it’s different
