68' M715 AKA "Smokey", 8.1 engine on links, coils and 40's

Washed…. Found the factory tag, looks like it might actually be an ‘85 case that had been swapped into the ‘89 truck at some point. Either way, it still has the large 90mm input bearing

Sort of a lazy Sunday so it’s NP205 time…. Fortunately Mark and I label all this stuff when it comes apart. Years later I’d have no clue what it came out of. This 205 is from an ‘89 Chevrolet K30 crewcab truck from Fairbanks, AK. It was a former Alyeska Pipeline truck with a 6.2 liter diesel...

Yeah, my rough guess is probably right around 6k. I believe they are about 5k originally and I’ve added a lot of steel at this point

It came out pretty well. The metal has a bit of a curvature to it when the fasteners get tightened up and it’s VERY solid

Finished out the rest of the USB plugs today Also, this M715 never had grill of any sort, just a great gaping hole open to the radiator. Maybe the grill was lost years ago, who knows 🤷‍♂️ Wanting to avoid jamming a stick right through a very expensive radiator, I picked up some 316 stainless...

Not a ton of time for stuff today. Was able to layout spots for 3 USB/12V plugs on the lower portion of the dash. Drilled the holes and added 10-24 threaded nutserts

This showed up along with the PCI radio 😄 It’ll be inset into the dash in the next few days.

Well, unfortunately no. If the entire truck had looked like the engine bay area/inner fenders, I would have left it and enjoyed the patina but.....It had 3-4 coats of terrible brush paint all over it. Including a horrific orange. So, eventually it'll all get media blasted, primed and...

Thanks Gents! It's slow and steady for sure. Lots more sheet metal massaging to go

And here’s the fully mounted Accusump. I’ve probably fitted the fender on/off 50+ times, hopefully won’t have to screw with it for a bit now. It’s kind of a FrankenFender now, ha! And here’s the pile of old bits. Quite a bit of original fender got chopped off

Fabbed up a quick mount for the Accusump solenoid out of some scrap aluminum. The solenoid will release up to 3 quarts of oil into the engine in the event of low oil pressure Fully boxed and sanded It tucks up between the coolant filter and clutch slave

Thanks! I’ve got plenty of time to work on it now that the season has changed, hopefully I’ll be able to make some very steady progress

Rebuilding the fender to fit the Accusump, using 16g plate Just tacking it in place for now. Lower clamp mount is installed, I’ll finish the upper mount portion tomorrow

Need to find a place for this 3 quart Accumulator and the engine bay is rapidly running short on room! The only place is next to the radiator standing upright. However the inner fender is in the way….so cut this chunk out Looking downward prior to making the cut. This is where the Accusump...

Ok, it’s about time to get back after this…. Started cutting up the driver side fender to clear the coils and the tubing Found this inscription in the upper portion of the fender. Looks like it was hand carved while the brass wasn’t watching, ha!

Thank you everyone for your kind words. Yeah, hopefully this coming fall when the weather turns, I'll be able to get the forward progress in motion again.

Well, it’s not finished and the project isn’t washed up……yet. I had a child several months ago who passed away due to complications from his birth. That pushed the reset button on a lot of stuff. I’m slowly getting back into it now after being off work for several months. I’m also juggling the...
