What was done to your rig this week?

Doing some general cleanup and maintenance and noticed how badly these joints have rusted since January.
Both for installed new end of Dec for the New Years Run

That is pretty odd. Even though that’s the threaded end, there is still usually a decent amount of black oxide coating left and usually a touch of tool oil from the factory, in my experience.

That looks like when I hit something with a cutoff wheel and leave it exposed…that bright orange flash rust…

hmmm... wondering if they didn't get coated?

Wow, did you drive through areas that have salted roads or something?

Might want to take a wire brush to them with some penetrating oil to clean them up. Maybe apply some antiseize to help protect them too.
Texas has had snow and ice storms and the roads were heavily salted (and other involved states too). I drove my Jeep through this so I should check it for rust too.

Evo Trackbar bracket, drilling the front lower hole is kind of a bitch I ended up having to install the track bar back on, jack up the passenger side and turn the steering full lock to the passenger side in order to fit my drill in there.

Had to recenter the steering wheel but besides that pretty straight forward install. This is going to make disconnecting my sway bar a little harder to get to the nut so it’s time to look for a rubicon swaybar 🥲

Keeps the factory location, but provides a thicker bracket, correct?

The dealership replaces it with the same failed design, I just installed these on the Gladiator:

I bought a set of these to have ready when it happens.

Well passenger side broke today and I can't find the damned things.
Bought another set and on the way.
The others will show up just as soon as I install the newer ones.

She's sitting on jack stands, driver side has been stripped down to the C and new Synergy ball joints pressed in and new Synergy knuckle hanging on the ball joints.

Having never done this before, I wasn't prepared for the difficulty I had. Should have known Indiana weather and road treatments would have the rust welds on every fitment part. Didn't help that the driver lower ball joint stud was bent. Go ahead, read that last line again and then explain it to me please.

In no hurry to get it done, weather isn't cooperating and working with cold metal parts is no fun when you're getting paid good money, let alone when you are making a dime.

Going to try to get driver side all back together and torqued tomorrow, but if not, oh well.

Have to build up my cuss words storage again anyway, I depleted it today.

A little more info.

The Synergy stuff is nice. Everything new went together with no issues. I was concerned the driver axle didn't seat all the way, but the new Dana Unit bearing/hub faced right up to the new knuckle. No fuss no muss. Everything on driver is back together and torqued. But on hold because the Indiana climate did a number on the tie rod ends. New ones on the way, hope the originals back out with no issues and the internal threads on the bar are in good shape.

Ball joint press had me a bit concerned. The aluminum C started to distort and the threaded rod just stopped turning. Some love taps on the axle C around the ball joint and I could see it move and able to apply more pressure and get the stubborn things out.
Did scare the crap out of me when tapping and everything jumped and fell to the ground. The old ball joint included.
