I have had the MOPAR branded FOX shocks for 66k miles now and they still seem to be doing ok. The main purpose of the shock is to prevent bounce (by absorbing energy), although they could stiffen the initial hit due to how they are valved. Most stiffness should come from tires and springs.

Perhaps a solution is to not provide any carts inside the store. Just expect customers to collect a cart and push it into the store themselves. Then they will need to deal with the disorder.
