All of the Houston area school districts preemptively to closed Monday. Probably for the best. Our aerial spaghetti bowl freeways don’t do well with ice.
Far cry from when I grew up out west of Houston in Katy. They wouldn’t close for anything short of a nuclear blast and even that would have been a school by school basis.
I was a freshman in high school and we had a hurricane blowing through. They refused to cancel school. Go to school and the wind and rain is lashing us on the bus. School starts at 7:25. By 8 am the power was out on the freshman wing. They sat us in the hallways for a couple of hours until a full day was registered according to the attendance measures in place then closed.
