Yeah, for the most part I'd agree to that. If I was being super picky I'd say mid to late 60's.

Even earlier (1960!). Great early bands: The Beatles, The Kinks, The Animals, The Zombies, The Yardbirds. These are all from Great Britain. Oddly, many were inspired by American blues musicians.
