COOKING Gadgets & Utensils

Much to the chagrin of my long suffering husband, I’m a sucker for a good kitchen gadget. Some have proven to be flops and others are rockstars. We received this rice cooker as a wedding present about 30 years ago. It’s been incredibleIMG_7909.jpeg

Let us know how you like it! I have been looking at rice cookers but there are so many options to choose from lol
 
Late to the game on this Ninja Creami machine. And now that I'm off the Ozempic, it'll be in heavy rotation for low(er)-sugar, high-protein recipe's.

So far my go-to is:
800ml Lacto-Free milk
600ml Low-fat chocolate milk
4 scoops BSN Syntha-6 Protein Power (Chocolate Milk)
pinch of Pink Salt
tsp of Zanthum Gum
(Blend the above and pour equally into 2 pint tubs, then freeze)

I’m in the market for a new camp stove. What’s everyone using for their camp stove on wheeling trips?

I bought a Cuisenart grill that has been okay and has served me well

Pros
Gets plenty hot
Seems to do okay in light wind
Big enough to cook a few steaks / 6 burgers
Small enough to pack in the jeep
Doesn’t seem to use much propane

Cons
Didn’t hold up too well on this last trip, previously I packed it and some other cooking gear in a pelican case. I tried cutting the extra weight but ended up shaking the thing apart without being in a padded & armored box.
Odd shape and goofy fold out feet make it hard to stack or tie down.
Low is still pretty hot, no “warm” setting.
Difficult to clean, I use about 10+ paper towels and 30+ minutes trying to get the grease wiped out of the nooks and crannies but it ends up dripping grease one packed up anyway.

I’ve switched to the 17” blackstone for everything but boiling water which I’m keeping my jetboil for. Blackstone is heavy but it does great.
 
If I’m going alone I usually use my jetboil and keep it simple. If I’m cooking for others, I either bring my Brunton Wind River or my portable Traeger (largely depends on what I’m cooking). The Brunton is bomb proof but you can’t buy them anymore.

I just won the electric griddle version at a golf tournament and gave it one of my sons. He used it for the first time last weekend and said it worked pretty well. I bet it would burn through a battery fast camping though.

Probably cool for someone in a rivion or cybertruck.

A few guys in my camp were dealing with battery issues just powering their fridges

I don’t think an e-griddle would work for my needs but it is kinda neat. I didn’t even know that they existed

I might try to get a Fordyce trip in in a few weeks and might need to buy before then unless one of the guys offers to cook

The Jetboil is mandatory…. I added the French press to mine and use it all the time. I take it with me if I need to travel for work to avoid buying coffee, gas station coffee sucks and Starbucks is expensive.

I’ve never heard of a brunton, gonna need to look that up

ETA: Most of the traeger’s need electricity don’t they?

Okay, I searched for the Brunton, that sucker looks well designed. Also, you’re right, they’re non existent. EBay didn’t even have used ones after a quick search.

When you say Jetboil I assume you’re referring to the cup style backpack unit. I was checking out the 2 burner Jetboil stoves in Scheels the other day, I was convinced I needed one until I noticed the $450 dollar price tag.

I’m not above spending money on quality products but I’ll need to wait for a milder month to drop that type of coin. I was only in there because the wife and kids were school clothes shopping, they tried to bankrupt me.
 
I just picked up a weber q1200 yesterday for this purpose. We'll see how it holds up. I have friends that have the propane go-anywhere and they like it. I wanted a little more horsepower.
