Weird tire wear

Went to Discount Tire to get tires balanced and front- back rotation. Current mileage is about 12,000 miles. They were rotated at 5000 too.

They measured tread the wear Measurements on 2 tires had wear in the middle of the tire. Which I thought was wierd. See the picture of the tire readings. Also the tires were not over inflated. I run them at 29psi cold. Discount Tire couldn’t say why it happened. They said maybe when the tire heats up it may bow the middle of the out. I said no, hot PSI is 31-32 PSI.

What does this? Never saw it before.

Tires are Nitto Trail Grappler, 35x17x11.5.

I just measured and checked the toe. I have a 1/4” toe out currently, and I’m going correct it to 1/16 “, it been this way for about a month and a half.

Could the toe cause this?
I’m I being worried over something I shouldn’t be?

I've always tried to get it around 1/16 toe in (same tire and size)... maybe a hair more but never a 1/4". I also run mine at 29 cold. Mine started to wear bad later in their life (on the inside) so I switched from front to back rotation ... to crossing them( based on advice here). It's helped for sure. I'm gonna do the cross rotate method on my next set as well.

Tire shops have done tread depth measurements for a long time. It's even run over to dealerships to try and sell tires. Most dealers check them on every car now on their inspection sheets. I would 100% agree to have a gauge and verify yourself.

I watched them do it, and he was bragging that he has the newest digital version.
The issue is small, not like chunks are missing. I can’t even see it.

It could be the new digital gauges are too accurate. Rises concerns are are just technical, not actual.
Adam I’m getting one of those gauges. Thanks.
 
My STT pros were wearing like that I ended up at 26-27 psi cold, 29-30 hot and they had even wear until they got worn down and started cupping. Even with the cupping they were fairly even

Yeah I know they have been checking depth for a long time I meant in three places across the tire. Every tire shop I’ve seen just does it once in the middle of the tire.
 
Crown wear or wear down the middle of the tread is common and totally normal when running a wide tire on a narrow wheel - even if you're running a lower psi. As far as your toe setting goes, unless you made this change, it should be 1/16" toe IN from the factory. You NEVER want to run toe out on a rear wheel vehicle as it will cause excessive wear.

It happened on the Bodie run. Dropped or hung up on a rock. I knew “toe in” from your video. But thanks for the reminder.
