That's just the thing. I can't lie, it still would be really hard for me to leave being born and raised here. I've thought about it more than once, but part of me secretly hopes California will go back to what it once was. (I'm probably delusional)
I know exactly how you feel. When I was your age, I loved it there. I loved the weather, all the things to do, I had a good group of friends (who I still have). Now that I'm older, I can't stand going back. The ONLY reason I go is to visit relatives. Trust me, if you ever leave, you might miss it for a little while, but you'll get older and not miss it.

When was California good? Perhaps the late 60's due to Ronald Reagan being governor?

Growing up in California, I recall a lot of suckage, even when it was "good". It was not the same sort of totalitarian suckage which dominates now.

I don’t know Bob I was stationed there in the early eighties. Being from a North Eastern shit hole state (NY) California was like paradise. Year round perfect weather or close to it along with beautiful beaches, awesome desert and mountains there was always something to do. Politically it was more a live and let live state. Though the political winds were definitely shifting which was our signal to leave along with family all being on the east coast and my wife’s parents being in failing health. We loaded up and moved away in 96 and I really have missed it. I wish I could talk my wife into looking at Nevada or Arizona but according to her the desert sucks. Me I love the desert and if we do move back I’ll be doing lots of traveling out to the desert.

Sounds a lot like me. California is great when you’re young, dumb and full of well you know. Then when you age a bit you realize how shitty it is.

Much/most of California is still full of scenic beauty and things to do. But all levels of government changed so it became a nanny state with thousands of rules/laws impacting the individual. Unless one enrolls children in a private school, the schools are ruled by the state so that children receive consistent indoctrination.

I can’t disagree with that but being honest all government schools are little more than indoctrination centers. With ranked choice voting the corruption and insanity will continue. Hoping Trump can break the thief’s from their continued plunder and buying of votes l.
