Winches?

JT@623

Looking to upgrade the winch first on the list is the warn evo 12K . Just been looking at a few Australian made winches carbon, runva,Sherpa, all comparable price wise just wondering if anyone has any experience with any ? I know the Aussies are pretty tough on there stuff and use them a lot but I’m guessing there probably made in China as well ?

With the exception of Warn premium winches (not the same as EVO) and all of Ramsey, EVERYTHING else is pretty much made in China. Comeup is made in Taiwan and if you must run something other than Made in the USA, I might give them a look being that Comeup is an international manufacturer of industrial hoists, winches, etc.

So are the warn zeon series made here or just assembled here ?

I've ran a Zeon 8 on a 6000 pound Jeep for years and used it. No issues. No need for a 12k imo. Just bought my 3rd Zeon for the JT build. Damn good winch.

So, if you're willing to spend $1k on a winch, that's about what a Sherpa 12k runs for, I personally would buy something like a Ramsey Patriot 9500. Granted, it will cost about $100 more but it is Made in the USA and really, all you need on a 4-door Jeep.

I have been very happy with my warn. It’s been on two different Jeeps and has seen a lot of use. I’ve used it to recover vehicles and for chores on my property such as pulling logs and ripping out small trees. Warn is worth the $ IMHO.

Just thinking it wouldn’t work as hard then figuring it’s still good for 8K with 3 to 4 wraps on the drum probably still overkill .
Not sure how you came to that conclusion but I can tell you that I run a Warn 9.5xp on Moby, a Jeep that weighs in at close to 7,000 lbs and it way more power than any 12k China winch I've ever seen on the trail.

You can see it in action here.

My big ass Gladiator only has a Zeon 10. It's more than enough.

They aren't cheap by any means but time and time again, I have found them to be the most reliable winch that money can buy.

Of course, I am a Warn fan but again, I wouldn't hesitate to run a Ramsey. I just looked and see that you can get a 9.5e for only $699.

The last thing anyone wants is a 'budget' winch not doing shit for them when they really need it. When you're out in BFE with your family and your budget winch doesn't save you, you'll wish you'd spent the extra 200, 300, 500, whatever hundred, to make sure you get home safe.
