A few months back, Cindy and I were talking to H20JNKY about the possibility of doing some kind of Jeep event here in our town of Carson City, NV. We thought it'd be great to help the local economy and we have tons of fun trails including ones right in town and we were hoping to share them with other Jeepers outside of the area. Before we knew it, we were talking to the Carson City Visitors Bureau and well on our way to reviving an old event that we used to do called, Roktoberfest but then, bureaucracy reared its head and put a screeching halt to everything. Now, it's not that I'm not understanding of all the committees and boards and their need to regulate the use of our lands but the speed that government tends to work at wasn't going to make it possible for us to do anything or at least, not this year.
In spite of the event being suspended, a few of our friends had already made reservations to spend the weekend here and they decided to come up to party anyway. It was fall after all and if nothing else, they could come up to enjoy the changing colors, beautiful weather and good times with good friends. Of course, being that we were now a much smaller group, we could even crawl a couple of trails while they were here. Needless to say, our big Roktoberfest event ended up becoming a small Fall Mall Crawl get together and all was good in the world. Here are a few pics from the fun we had with our friends, I hope you enjoy.
The DAY BEFORE the CRAWL
Unfortunately, before the fun could get started, disaster stuck Don and Lori as they made their way up. Apparently, their transfer case blew up and ATF on the exhaust almost burned their Jeep to the ground. Here's a couple of shots that Steph was able to take of the craziness.
Fortunately, everyone was okay and after getting their Jeep towed back to Off Road Evolution, Don and Lori hitched a ride with Moochie and they continued their way to Carson City. While we were waiting for them to come, a few of us headed over to a local BBQ joint known as Red's Old 395 - CHEERS!
After pulling into the Max Casino close to midnight, we started partying at the bar and Don started to hit the slots. And, if you can believe it, he almost immediately hit a $1200 jackpot!! Guess it was a good thing that he and Lori decided to still come up because now he could pay for a new transfer case!
DAY 1 - CRAWL at the MALL
Being that we didn't crawl into bed until about 1 am, getting up the following morning was a bit tough but everyone somehow managed to do so and we all met up at one of our favorite local breakfast stops - the Red Hut.
After a tasty breakfast, we decided to crawl one of the local malls just on the outskirts of town. Here's a shot of us airing down at the staging area.
Originally, the plan was to leave Billy's JK back at the staging area being that his brand new Rubicon only had about 500 miles on the odometer and was bone stock. But, after some discussion, he let us know that he'd really like to give it a try even if it meant that he'd have to be dragged through the whole thing by Moby. Here's a shot of him directly behind us as well as the rest of our group behind him.
Being that we spent a lot of time taking home movies of our friends, we didn't get as many pics as we would have preferred but, here are a few including this one of Ray having some fun.
Here's Jeff squeezing his way through the same obstacle.
A few shots of everyone heading up the trail.
Here's a fun shot of Tom flexing his way up a big obstacle. I should note that it was about here that he realized that he didn't have working lockers. Still he was able to work his way up with a little effort.
Anyone missing a WJ?
Not sure what the story is or how it even got to this point but this poor rig has been down here for a while now.
Surprisingly, it even has a VIN still on it 1J4GW48N0YC321772
Almost to the other side of the mall.
Cindy giving Moby a little stretching on the way out.
Doug decided this might be a good idea too.
Getting to the upper half of the parking garage takes a bit of effort and with 2 Jeeps in tow without lockers and a stock Rubicon, we decided to call it a day and leave the mall early.
After a nice scenic drive across the Carson Valley to see all the Fall colors, we made our way over to the Genoa Bar, Nevada's oldest thirst parlor and in the oldest settlement in the state!
To an AWESOME day out with good friends - CHEERS!!
