Transfer Case Help

Last weekend while changing transfer case fluid in my 2016 JKUR, I made a wrong move and the plastic tip slipped off of the end of the tube of the cheap fluid pump that I was using and it fell into the t case.

I drained it, fished around in there, used compressed air in the fill plug and a shop vac in the drain plug. Nothing. Can’t get it.

Drove it, drained and refilled the fluid. Looks clean.

Going into a shop tomorrow for a regear and the guy says he’ll pull the entire t case and split it open on the bench and get it out / clean up whatever’s left. I feel like I can break the case open without taking the t case completely off though…

What would you do?

I feel your pain, had similar incident but getting the loose piece was relatively easy to fish out, if you consider an hour's worth of in a panic work to get it out lol.
It was after that I learned to cut those tips off and just have hose
 
My opinion likely does not amount to much but if I were you, I would do nothing.

The plastic is surely no match for the metal in the transfer case and I think that the transfer case does not have a filter which might become clogged with plastic bits, so it seems unlikely to cause harm. Most likely it will come to rest somewhere and not move.

Haha, glad you were able to get it out. And yea I felt fooled by that stupid piece; the hose sticks in there just fine without it!

Yea that thought definitely crossed my mind. Likely the worst that could happen is that little fluid intake at the bottom of the case could become clogged and fluid wouldn’t be distributed to gears, bearings, etc. Seems like regular monitoring would take care of it…I think I may be too obsessive to let it go though!

Lol sorry to hijack but that’s the same instructions I used to install my SYE on my TJ. Awesome.

OP glad you got it out. Reminds me of the day I dropped the oil pump rod from the bottom of my distributor, down in the pan of my 390 in my 67 fairlane. :cry:
