Transfer case chain

Is it possible to have the transfer case chain stretch and have it hitting the inside of the case?

Yes it is. Replaced mine once in a 94 ZJ. I think it was in the NP231 transfer case.

Do you know how much a chain would cost? Or somewhere around it? And was it hard to replace?

I think I paid about 100 bucks for the chain. You have to drain and split the case. Getting the chain on and everything lined back up is sorta a pain. I did it under the jeep but would suggest dropping the TC and doing it on a work bench.

I remember some pretty good write ups on it. At least for the NP231.

If you take the chain out and hold it horizontal and it sags more than 1/2" its stretched.

I am pretty sure at least for the 231 that they make a wider, stronger replacement chain
