Trailer upgrade question.

I have this small utility trailer that I'd like to upgrade the axle, wheels and tires but I don't know where to start. Can anyone recommend an idler axle that would work? I know I'll be cutting the fenders. Wanted to get to a 31" tire size on 15" wheels. From a quick search I see a lot of 5X4.5 bolt pattern axles out there.

If your plan is to take it on the trail you should get the same size tires and rims so you can put them on the jeep if needed.

That's the route I'm looking to go. Did you swap the axle out? If so what did you go with.

That's a great idea but I don't think it'll see the woods.

I did not swap the axle. The trailers 1500# axle rating is plenty for my use. Started with a 4X6 Utility trailer, did a axle flip and added 3" lifting blocks. Cut the tiny fenders off to clear the 33" tires. Added 17x9 ProComp 7089's with 1" wheel adapters to clear the trailers frame. Topped her off with the Yakima Racks.

Every item for this trailer (including the trailer) was purchased from Craigslist!! Totaling about $500. This trailer is strictly use for trips to the beach. I would not take on any "offroad" trails but transporting beach gear, camping gear, surfboards, kayaks or mulch from the home improvement store is no problem.

Hey RamP, don't know if they have Tractor Supply in your area but if so you might go take a look at what they have to offer in trailer parts. They carry everything to literally build your own trailer. Might be worth a look just for ideas if nothing else.

If you want a new axle Axles Inc. can build and ship just about anything you want. Etrailer has new hubs, bearing brakes and they have always been helpful when I call with questions.
