The "Wilhelmina Johnson" or "Wilma" for short - Slow Go JKU Build & Photo Thread...

Greetings WAL - Donnie here a.k.a. bonedaddy & proud to be a member of this fine community...

I would like to introduce Wilhelmina Johnson, or Wilma for short... She is our first Jeep, been itching to pull the trigger on one since the 90's and finally did it - boy we could not be happier!
This will be a very slow build thread, got 4 kids and those with children understand why...

But I hope you guys enjoy reading about Wilma as we move towards our future endeavors as much as I enjoy reading about yours ... Thanks for checking her out!

To start off she is a 2015 Willy's Wheeler "W" - Tank in color. We brought her home March 16, 2015 from Dayton Andrews in Clearwater Florida, best ride home ever!!!

Just shy of our 2 week mark, and about 1200 miles on her, we were already wheelin' at Croom WMA - making up for lost time... we couldn't wait! went out with a couple of buddy's from work in their JK's and we had a blast! Both my wife and I did some wheelin' that day, she was flying through that mud ... got out first mark going down a brushy trail, hey atleast we got it out of the way early ... ;) Oh and a little history lesson on the wifey who's first car was a Lifted Samurai on 40's... yeah!

First mod - bought the Smitty Built Bikini, Targa and Windjammer - which I later returned because the windshield header was crap! in my opinion anyways...

yeah I thought i was more to the left of the ruts, trying to just go on the higher side of the mess... but we slid in and were done - tried to get out but once we highsided it and got hung up on the pumpkin we knew we were done...

2 hours later once we got towed out, we went on with our evening but our day of wheelin' was done... but at least I had my hook to use! and know first hand the importance of recovery gear... i had our handy little Jeep recovery bag that came with the Willy, Tow Strap, D-Rings and Gloves, but didn't need to dirty that... Doesn't look too bad, all four wheels were caked in mud on the inside - that was a fun ride until we hit the carwash...

Nice ride. Looks like you guys had fun and that's all that matters. And I know exactly how slow a build goes when you have children lol.

I will take a better shot of it once it stops raining or if it ever stops raining! I forgot to take a before shot (i know shame on me) but I have the shot from a previous post i will replicate and post it... I know it's only a 1.75" leveling kit, but I personally think it made a nice difference... and of course made it a bit more difficult for my short ass to get in it... ;)

Now I want tires!!!

History Lesson

Just some history of myself, incase anyone was interested... Started off on the opposite end of the spectrum in the GM Sport Compact World, was a very well known active member of the J-Body.org Community... built a DD/Show Car, won a decent amount of awards, including a few Nopi Atlanta trophies, was in charge of organizing and hosting the Annual J-Body shows we used to have in Orlando Florida, last few years were at Old Town. Threw in the towel on all of that once we hit our 10th Annual show, just didn't have it in me anymore and got bored with it and all the BS that came along with judging and awards, never again... Got together with my now wife and decided to sell my baby and buy her a nice rock and the rest is history... Went through a few cars that i could care less about until i pulled the trigger on my dream vehicle and it became my "wayalife"... ;)

Very happy to have stumbled across WAL while doing a internet search on another Forum and one of the hits was from Wayalife... ;)

Here's a few shots of my old 04 Sunfire...

Went for a ride during lunch today, don;t really go out just to take pict of her as much as I should... took a cruise over to Davis Island to the marina and airport - found a couple of nice spots that gave me a chance to show off my leveling kit...

Not too bad for a slow build right? Let me know what you think, I have a few ideas of things to come - but coin makes it all happen...

will take better shots when I can...

This is the "Olive Green" wish it was a bit darker, more of an "Olive Drab" color... Being a graphic designer, we will see how long the banner lasts before it drives me nuts and I swap it to Silver or Black... Maybe I can get with the man about adding a color to the palette or having it done... Not looking for exact match, but closer would be great... Maybe even a Charcoal Gray... ;)

Not going to lie, I love this one and it's location - but a word to the wise on install, watch the center of the A's, O's and P they were a bit more stubborn to come off the paper and stay... Lost one of the A's... ;)
