The Rubicon Trail

Hi everyone,

I am currently in the midst of planning a tripping that includes hitting up the Rubicon trail and would love some input. As of now I am planning on staging at Loon Lake. I will be towing my JK in so I will need space for truck and trailer. Is this the best area for me to stage at? Also, once the trail is completed, will I have to drive back through the trail or is there a road that leads back around? Any advice/experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Yes there is plenty of room at loon lake. You can drive back around after the trip. How long you planning for the trail?

You turn off of ice house road onto another. I don't remember the name though.

neg, it's Ice House road all the way to the staging area.

There is a right turn/hook where another route goes left, it sort of gives the appearance of another road, but it's Ice House.

What's the road that continues on straight?

Currently looking to spend about 3-4 days. We are wanting to camp and take it all in.

I ran the trail straight through from loon lake to Lake Tahoe last year and it is 100 miles on paved roads back to the tow vehicle. This year I ran the trail from loon lake to rubicon springs and camped for two days. Went to the top of Cadillac hill and relaxed the second day. Then ran the trail back to loon lake. The trail is a lot more challenging going this way. Three days on the trail and is was very fun. I left my tow vehicle at the camp ground and paid the fees $10 per day so that I had a campsite Saturday night when it gets busy. The camp ground is on the right side just before the dam crossing closest to the trail head. Best of luck!

yeah, when we turned right it was onto icehouse rd from icehouse rd...not sure the name of what continues straight there.

We actually made two rights. The first was icehouse. I thought that continued on when we made the second right into the staging area.

duno, but it's Ice House Road all the way to staging at Loon. The right I'm talking about has a street sign that says Ice House Rd, at least it was this way 2 days ago when I drove up it.

Probably talking about the same thing. I'll look at the map later.

Awesome info guys, I really appreciate it. I guess the question now is drive the trail back or take the road.
