The PIPPI Project

There's a big difference between "need" and "want" and when it comes to Jeeps, I'd be the first to say that there's a lot of want for the kind of big V8 power that a 392 can deliver. There's a lot of want for the kind of torque and range that a diesel can offer and there's a lot of want for the kind of new technology that can be found on a 4Xe. Of course, this is to say nothing about the kind of trim packages that you can get them in, like a Rubicon or Mojave or how much you can build them up. But, is any of it really needed?

Obviously, Cindy and I have a garage full of Jeeps, several of which are Rubicon's, built up and extremely capable but there was a time when all we had was a basic TJ Wrangler Sport. Back then, we were just happy that we could make our monthly payments and the thought of building it up, was really the furthest thing from our minds. But in spite of what that Jeep didn't have, it was still able to take us on some of the best and most memorable adventures ever. And, this got us thinking. About all the people we hear from on a regular basis. People who are wanting to buy a Jeep but can't afford a $50k Rubicon or think they'll need to "empty every pocket" just to get out and have some fun. And, that's what prompted us to get PIPPI.

PIPPI is a project that Cindy and I have been wanting to do for a long time now. To get back to our roots, back in something basic like a 2-door Jeep Wrangler and share with others, the great times you can have with it and for the most part, just as is. Much like Pippi Longstocking, the unassuming but crazy strong red headed little girl who took her friends on adventures of a lifetime, we'd like to show how something like this little red Jeep, can do the same.

With all that said, here are a few all around shots that we took of PIPPI, our brand new, 2021 Jeep Wrangler Sport 2-door with a manual transmission and half doors... well, in the back anyway.

Being that we bought PIPPI from Peterson's in Nampa, ID, we thought it would only be appropriate to drive our Gladiator to go pick her up. Here's a shot of him taking a break on a sand dune along the way.

Ripley took to the highest point and watched over us as we relaxed in the sun.

Continuing our journey to the north, we made a stop at an abandoned BAR to reminisce a simpler time in our lives.

Just before crossing into Idaho, we stopped yet again to soak in a beautiful sunset.

The following morning, we arrived at Peterson's and was presented with a temptation on another level. Almost as if someone were asking us... are you sure you're doing the right thing? This was parked next to PIPPI

Of course, we looked past it and instantly fell in love with our new little 2-Door Sport.

I still can't believe someone was able to pack in a set of half doors in the back of her.

That 392 couldn't hold a candle to this power house of a 3.6L :ROFLMAO:

On our long drive home, PIPPI couldn't resist the urge to get her first taste of dirt and so, we obliged every chance we could...

Now, for those of you who are wondering, yes, the plan is to keep PIPPI stock or as stockish as possible. Any modifications that we do make will be based on actual need, kept to a minimal, with budget in mind and whenever possible, using recycled parts. We hope that you'll enjoy following this new project of ours.

This next set of photos are of the interior.

It's strange to see a black and white EVIC and gauges for fuel and temp.

Even the basic radio is presented in black and whitish even though it does serve as a back up camera screen in color.

As you can see, the shift lever has a safety that you have to pull up on in order to get into reverse.

Here's a couple of shots that show just how packed in the half doors were.

Can't wait for this to unfold! I'm sorry, come again? A stick and half doors? 🤤 My TJ with the same setup is giving me that look again...

So cool.

I was wondering about the shift lever. Not that I ever have scratched reverse while hastily shifting left handed and eating a cheese burger. 🤣 but I think that’s a good feature.

LOL - that would never happen :ROFLMAO:
Topless with half-doors please. :)
You know it's coming 😁
Looking good.

This is my view everytime in the driver's seat. Nothing wrong with simple and basic.
Funny thing is, I agree with you completely! In a some ways, the color screen can be distracting, especially the fuel economy one.

I’m really excited to see your chronicles of how well this Jeep does on the trails and the adventures it takes you on!
The stock Jeep’s are so much more capable than everyone gives them credit for. So awesome you’re keeping it stockish!!!

Those Micheline tires (or similar ones) are what I run on everything but the Jeep, fantastic on the ice & wear good too

Looking forward to seeing what you do with her. I'm sure you can do some pretty wild mods with things you have laying around...haha.

Edit: That's the same shift pattern that's in my Sentra. I've had it 3.5 years now and still stall it trying to "start" in third.

Oh yeah, we've seen it first hand in places like Moab. The engineers from Jeep are always all to happy to wheel what they've made stock. Glad you're liking what we'll be doing with this. :)
Love it! Of course I'm partial to red and black 😎
LOL - it really is a great color scheme. (y)
She's so cute! Congrats.
Thank you :D

LOL - I'm so glad that Jeep put in that safety lock. Now that I know it's there and more familiar with it, I do much better starting in 1st :D
LOL - it's coming
