Supertop NX help

First soft top ever and not gonna lie I'm very confused and frustrated. The instructions aren't very clear in this area...what am I doing wrong/what do I need to do to latch down the header?

Push them in opposite directions and it will make I wider. If that makes sense.

Hold the smaller part toward the footmans loop and then pull the larger piece to you.
