Sound System Upgrade?

Hey guys, I was wondering if any of you had any suggestion of a sound system upgrade. Or if any of you have done one. I have the Apline stock upgrade system but I want to be able to crank it louder and have it be more clearer. Hard to hear when the tops down on the highway and the sound gets lost. I would like to keep my same head unit though. I don't know what size sub comes from the factory in the back does anyone know?

Any suggestions overall?

My system is pretty basic. I put in an Alpine head unit, replaced the sound bar speakers with rockford fosgates (link below), and I have 2 JL 10" subs in a box that was made to fit behind the back seat of an F250 crew cab. I plan on replacing the front speakers with the same rockfords and get a bigger box for my subs, but for now its pretty loud. And I actually had really good bass with the top/doors off going down I-10 at 75mph. I can't wait to hear it with the right kind of box.

Here's the speakers I got:

The stock sub is an 8 inch. With the right amp they infinity stereo in the jk could actuwlly be a really sweet system. I'll have to remember to check this again when I get home to link you to the amp I use.

Please do remember!! If simply replacing the stock amp will make it better, that would be great! :thumb:

Unfortunately the only way to improve the sound system in the JK is to replace it all. Due to the fact that chrysler in their infinite wisdom muted the soundbar, it will never sound "loud" until you bypass the factory amp and run your own. I have a full system in my rig, so if you are interested in replacing everything, I will help. I just wanted to make sure you are willing to go all the way.

No, you cannot replace the stock amp. It has to remain installed (if you are using the OEM headunit). It can only be bypassed. It's a lot more complicated than it needs to be, but that's the hand we're dealt.

I would be interested in any info you can share as well. The wife and I both love our jeep but the sound system is pretty weak so it's on the upgrade list.

Well, if you have the OEM headunit (but not a navigation unit) I'd rip it out, get a nice aftermarket one, and then you can do whatever you want. However, if you have a navigation unit, it requires the OEM amp to remain connected to function. As a result, adding an aftermarket amp becomes more complicated and requires a special module (PAC makes a direct harness for this.) I added an Alpine PDX5 amp (small, and 5 channel) added all new components in the dash and soundbar, and an 8" rockford sub in the OEM enclosure. I ran all new speaker wire to all locations as well. Now I have a stereo that is crisp, clean, and loud.

Reading over this, the way inworded it sounds like i installed the unit already. Let me clear this up. I spoke with crutchfield for a long time on what would be an economical eay to upgrade my stereo and they told me that amp would do wonders

I put kickers all around with 2 15" Memphis subs JL wiring stock head unit and it sounds awesome top and doors off 75-80 mph turned up about 16ish

I had the basic system in mine when I bought it( head unit, front and sound bar speakers). They installed an amp under the dash, now the front speakers sound better but the rear still can't be heard. Mine is on the upgrade list too.

So I have completed my sound system upgrade. What I did learn is what is being discussed above ^^. The only way to make it a legit good sounding system is to replace the whole thing. That's what I did. Now my system screams and is exactly what is needed when the top is down and driving around in the summer. If you guys have an questions just ask me. I'd love to help you guys out now that I have gone through the whole process. :thumb:
