Shock Help

Ok so I have EVO 3" Plush Ride coils coming in the mail and need to know the difference in shocks I have and the Bilstien 5100 seiries. I currently have the Pro-Comp ES9000 shocks and looking at replacing them with Bilstien 5100 series. Good bad or indifferent. I know mixing suspension components does not give the best ride, but I do not have a lot of spare cash to put into the JK. I am trying to build my JK on a budget while saving for EVO's King Coilover kit front and rear along with the Double D long arm upgrade.

So standing by for the advice.

disclaimer: I am asking advice on just the two shocks and reserve the right not to take your and I do not know everything.

I have the Bilsteins and love them! Great shock. I haven't ran the other one so I can not compare. I have heard the Bilsteins pair very well with the plush ride coils

You have to make sure that you have the 5100 that is built for 3 inches of lift. If yours are too long then you will bottom out your shock at full stuff and if they are too short you won't get as much droop as you would like.

If the shock is to short you can bottom them out at full stuff and lose the amount of droop you are looking for is what you ment zach. The air gap between bump stop and bump stop mount on the axel should be shifter then the amount of shock that is showing. This will help prevent bottoming out the shock. For example, before I put my rock star skids on I had to measure to make sure I had enough shock showing that I wouldn't bottom out. So I had almost 6" of shock showing so when I raised it 1.5" I now have 4.5" showing. My gap between my bump stop and the axel was 2.5 inches. This ment I still have about 2" of up travel before I bottom out my shock. Plenty of room

The ES9000's are still an old school hydro shock and the 5100's will be a modern monotube shock. The later will provide a better and more responsive ride.

Oh fawk i did say that backwards. I was early gimme a break.

Thanks for the catch Steve
