can't belive it, but my 2012 6 speed knob split in two yesterday the top popped off, tried to see if unscrewed, nope, checked out some youtube videos on how to pop it off so I can replace it, not much help. looks like you just pull straight up really hard and it should come off, any one take theirs off ?
 
Take an adjustable wrench and make it big enough to just put over the shaft under the shift knob. Then take a rubber mallet and hit the wrench. Mine popped right off this way.
 
As you have seen, all you have to do is pull up real hard. Wiggling it a bit as you pull can help. Just be careful to not knock yourself out when it finally comes off :crazyeyes:
