RK 2.5 X lift

I have a 13 jk sport 2door with a Rusty’s off-road 3.25 lift (I believe previous owner installed). It really doesn’t drive or ride that well and sits pretty high. From the measurements I found online to compare it to its 4.5” taller than stock (measured lower shock bolt to top shock mount 23”). I am looking for a better/ more complete lift and stay about 2.5-3” of lift. The RK 2.5 X looks to be a pretty complete and quality lift. Is there better options? Will the lift actually be 2.5-3” or higher because it’s a 2 door. Thanks

More than likely, it'll be higher just like most lift kits out there, especially being that you have a 2-door.

With that said and aside from the height, what don't you like about the way what you have now drives or rides? I think trying to solve that would make a lot more sense than to just throw money at a kit you know nothing about. It's possible that all you need to do is replace the coils and shocks you have installed.

With that height I’m assuming you already have adjustable control arms and track bars so all you would really have to change out is the coils/shocks for a better ride and change lift height. A softer coil like EVO rides nice.

Of course if you are wanting to just replace it all, RK works but from what I hear their duel rate coils ride on the stiffer side but I’m sure someone else can confirm.

I've personally installed and tested a set of RK coils and on a 2-door JK. In fact, it was OverlanderJK's and I can confirm, the ride they provide is on what I would consider, the firm side.

The lift was installed by the previous owner but it doesn’t appear to be very complete for this amount of lift. There is no adjustable control arms. It is basically coils, Adjustable track bars front and rear, front sway bar end links and shocks. I already replaced the shocks with bil.5100 and it did help the ride but it is still pretty flighty at lower backroad speeds. Some of it may be able to be fixed we a proper alignment but with stock control arms? The front track bar seams like it has flex to it when you some one turn the wheels back and forth. Not the joists but the actual bar. Is that normal? My thought was if I need control arms and a track bar would a complete kit be better than just piecing things together. Thank for the replys

A majority of ride quality comes from spring. Shocks will only help to smooth things out. In other words, that's why your new shocks didn't do much to fix what you're feeling. Of course, running too much air in your tires won't help things either. Making sure to be running at about 28-30 will help a lot too.

That said, ASSUMING you have as much lift as you say you have, that will definitely cause flightiness at highway speeds and a set of adjustable front lower control arms set a bit longer to increase your caster will help out. If in fact you really do have bending at your track bar, you would most likely have death wobble too. If you don't, you're probably just imagining what you're seeing. Also, without adjustable components, the most an alignment shop will do is take your money and maybe recenter your steering wheel if it's needed.

I should say that Rusty's isn't exactly known for not making quality parts.

This is what I am using to determine my lift height. Mine measured 23” instead of 18 1/2”. No death wobble and tire are at 32#.

Okay, sounds like you're working off of legit numbers and really, it's not all that surprising especially being that you have a 2-door and that MOST kits yield way more lift than is advertised. And, being that tall would definitely cause flightiness without some added caster. Also, your control arms will also be sitting at steep enough of an angle and that will make things not ride so nicely too.

Setting your ride lower like you are wanting is definitely what I would recommend, especially being that you're just running 32" tires. As Disciple mentioned, I would consider EVO coils as they tend to measure more closely to what is advertised and will offer a softer ride. Unfortunately, you will need new shocks to go with them being that what you have is most likely too long. Other than that, adjustable front lower arms or drop brackets to help correct your caster is all that you really need and I still think that can be done for less than a brand new kit with components that you don't need.

I think to cover what you are wanting to accomplish as far as lowing the ride height, smoother ride and better overall handling, I’d look at the EVO Enforcer 3” Stage 1 or even Stage 2 (adds rear upper control arms) with a drag-link flip. This will cover everything you need including correct bump stops, sway bars and all new extended brake lines. You can still use your track bars after adjustment. You will just need to get new shocks unless yours have the proper travel for a 3” lift.

You can take a look at the EVO Enforcer kit HERE

With a two-door, wouldn't it need new drive shafts with that much lift?
I would have thought so. The rear shaft is really short and the CV boots would be in a constant state of pinch. Wouldn't surprise me if they're blown. Same with the front at the output shaft even on a 4-door.

I found RK springs to be very soft myself, but I'm in a big fat 4 door. They also permanently sagged about 1" in the front and 2" in the rear after running around loaded down for a couple of years. I'm still running their control arms which I like. This is also on a JL, not JK.

The previous owner did say it had teraflex high angle cv joints on the drive shaft. Have not verified this myself. Thanks for all the info guys.
