Replacement key

So I recently broke my key. Long story short I got a new chip less key made but have to hold the old chip near it. Is there any other option than paying $200+ for a new key

I've heard you can buy a chipped key elsewhere, but you have to have two original keys to activate it. Some key dance in the steering column?? Not sure if that helps in your case.

If you have two keys you can self program a third. If you only have one then my understanding is that a dealer has to make the duplicate.

Ya this is really easy. Look up auto transponder on google and they have keys for like $55. They send you a key, you have it cut, and if you have 2 factory keys you can program the third with a key in the ignition dance (they send you instructions). Key actually feels better than factory so they don't seem to be cheap keys.

I may do this just to have an extra while I have 2 keys :cheesy:

Iam a locksmith you have to have two keys to program a third. If you don't have three keys you have to have a programmer. And a four digit pin code to program it. You can get the pin code from the dealership by giving them the last eight of the vin. Or you can do what most car audio places do and stick your key fob head in the steering column and use a standard key. That is what most do with aftermarket remote start. They just don't tell you that. Another way is to buy a blank on line and swap the remote insides if you still have the fob half

Thanks for the responses guys looks like I'm gonna have to fork out the cash so I can have two and they I'll do the dance for the third.
