Removing excess gasket maker

On my first attempt at putting the diff cover (my first time, don't judge me), I ended failing to install it properly and when I removed it to try the second time I ended up getting that stuff all over the outside of the cover, any tips to remove that stuff without scratching the cover?

Just drive it back and forth on your neighbor’s landscaping a few times. Boxwoods do wonders for scrubbing the undercarriage.

By the time you’re done you won’t even know it was there.
