re-gear question

Caught the Bug
Last week I swapped out my rear "X" axle for a rubi with 5.13s. Today, I had my front gears for my D30 replaced with same ratio to match. The salesguy told me that I needed to take it easy in 4 wheel drive but not to worry about 2 HI because the gears are not spinning due to open diff. Don't the gears spin in the front diff regardless? I'm pretty sure my front driveshaft spins whether I'm in 4 or 2 wheel drive. Am I missing something?

Everything still spins but there isn't any power being directed to the front end from the transfer case in 2wd when you engage the transfer case into 4 wd then power is being transfered to the front axle.

Okay, that's what I thought. So is the break-in period only when under load? I'm wanting to know if I can drive on freeway right now since rear gears are already broken in
