What could possibly scream a "JEEP WAY OF LIFE" better than an 800+ miles trip up through the California Central Coast and back again, more than half of which is run on rural back-roads and byways and, all of which is done doorless and topless!! And, to the 38 people who chose to brave the hundreds of miles traveling with us in triple digit heat, choking dust and frigid fog, all I can say is that you really are true blue Jeepers at heart and, ones that I am proud to have as friends. Here are some pics from our adventures, I hope you all enjoy.
Moby Dick and Nemo stripped down, all packed up with just what we need and ready to roll...
Going to bed at our home for the night in Grapevine...
View of the 5 heading up into golden hills of the Tejon Pass...
Meeting up with everyone and getting the convoy lined up at the Tejon Ranch Truck Stop...
Making a stop over at the sprawling oilfields near Taft...
Off pavement and heading up into the Temblor Range...
In an effort to keep out of the dust, everyone spreads way out...
Even though it was only 10 AM, the temps were already getting into the high 80's and with a long steep climb to boot, one of the JK's in our convoy got a "Hot Oil" light on and so, we stopping at the summit to let it cool off...
On the move again, we headed into the Carrizo Plains and made a stop at the border sign to take in the sights and take some pics...
Working our way along the Carrizo Plains and across the San Andreas Fault...
Making a stop to hike out to Soda Lake...
Walking along the boardwalk on the shores of Soda Lake...
A few of us decided to be adventureous and walked out onto the crusty bright white surface of Soda Lake...
Looking south across the mineral rich lake bed...
After Crossing over the La Panza Range, we made a stop over at the famous and historic Pozo Saloon - a watering hole that's been serving customers since 1858...
What a bummer!! Unfortunately for us, the Pozo Saloon was closed...
But, just as we were about to leave, the owner opened up the door and invited us in...
HONEY BADGER decided to order something small to drink...
Nothing like a Pozo Martini at the Pozo Saloon...
The owner of the bar demonstrating how to prepair a dollar so that it can be thrown up and stuck on the ceiling...
Getting ready to donate a dollar...
BAM!! It sticks!!
Even though the Pozo Saloon is out in the middle of nowhere, it still hosts large concerts and features names such as Willie Nelson, Lynyrd Skynyr and Snoop Dog. Here's Moochie checking out some of the posters from past events...
After pulling into San Luis Obispo and getting cleaned up, we all headed down to the farmers market to grub on some tasty BBQ and then some...
Later on in the evening, we made a stop over at Mother's to enjoy a cold one...
