Caught the Bug
Myself and a buddy made the trek from Northern Nevada down to Laughlin Nevada to meet up a group of friends out of Orange County and some others from the San Fran bay area to run the Mojave Road. This was my 3rd time running it and the 3rd, 4th, and 5th+ times for many others in the group.
This trip took us 193 miles in the dirt and every inch was a blast.
Here is the 'official' video from our trip. Kids and Silly Offroading.
Pics - some are out of order.
Day 0 - Sleeping at the Luxurious Avi Casino
Our Group lined up along the Colorado River, performing final gear tie downs and tire air downs
Finally on the trail
Piute Gorge
Penny Can, someone recently 'installed' a new one.
Time to get some crawling going on in Caruthers Canyon. A dude riding solo in a tricked out old FJ40 Cruiser came up with a popup tent camper on top and 5 crazy antenna's, and of course a snorkel. A true overlander.
The group following me up
We made it quite a ways up the trail until we reached a natural closure. A massive boulder came down from the side of the mountain making this part of the trail only passable my buggies or those who aren't afraid to flop. My buddy is standing in front of the rock, it was a solid 6+ feet tall and formed a "V" with the side of the boulder.
It was beautiful terrain.
At the Mojave Mailbox, signing in. I skimmed the book, which dated back to Oct '12, for the WOL crew that ran Mojave Road a few weeks back but couldn't find anything indicating such.
Items for trade in the Mojave Mailbox
A sick Willy's jeep truck I spotted at the Lava Tubes.
Heading down into the Lava Tubes
My JK post 20+ Mile high speed wash run down to Soda Dry lake bed. I caught air a couple of times.
Lining our rigs up for a group photo at Traveler's Monument.
Checking out some canyons/trails that shot off Afton Canyon
Grabbing lunch before heading out
Made it to the top of Razor Sand Dunes
Watching the trains come by before heading back to pavement.
