O/D Off light on 2015 JK

Headed home from dinner with a friend in his 2015 JK and his dash was showing an "O/D Off" light in the cluster. I know the 07-11 jk's have a selectable overdrive, but I was under the impression the WA580 was a non-overdrive transmission. Anyone have any ideas what might be causing that light?

I've got a '15 and have never noticed an "O/D off light" any where. There is no button to turn over drive off. You turn over drive off by bumping the auto trans shifter to the left while in drive to down shift from 5th to 4th( or whatever other gear you want to use) and the number "4"(or number for whatever other gear you are in) will show on the instrument cluster to indicate you have moved the shifter into manual shift mode.

The OP is correct in that the 3.8L JKs had an overdrive off button to prevent the trans from shifting into overdrive (4th gear on the 3.8L 44RE), and it is odd that this indication would illuminate on a '15 JK cluster.

Never seen an OD off light on my '15, in limp mode or otherwise.

That was my understanding as well. I will have him send a photo of his gauge cluster with it illuminated. I was completely confused when it came on.
