Northern Alabama

Hey, Hey! Glad to be here and thanks for the welcome. My name is Billy and I live in Northern Alabama where I spend most of my time working on my Jeep, trailing, and making dioramas with diecast Jeep Wranglers and Gladiators. We are a Jeep family, I drive a 2017 JKU Sahara 75th Edition named Beaudox. My wife drives a 2022 JT Mojave and my son drives a 2017 JK Rubi Recon. Currently, my JKU is in the garage on jack stands which has been that way for a month or so now. Rear spider gears busted up (think from a trail ride I did) so it is in the process of being re-geared. Just finished the rear 44, and now I am putting the rear back together and moving on to the front. First gear job, so it has taken some time --100 YouTube videos and hours reading forums. Had a hell of a time with pinion preload and the crush sleeve eliminator, but all in all it was an experience. I am hoping the front goes a lot smoother and quicker.

Again glad I could join and take in the experience that is floating through the ether here.

-Billy B.

Welcome from Texas (and Arizona)!

Very impressed by someone doing their own gears!
Thanks Bob! That’s a good thing to hear when all you typically get is “take it to a 4x4 shop” or “you’ll spend the same amount on tools as you would if you were to pay someone to do it”. Definitely don’t think it’s easy or fun necessarily, but three Jeeps, more gears are gonna need to be replaced eventually and forking over 5K each time, well, not this guy. It’s been frustrating here and there and yes I have purchased quite a few tools. Some I probably won’t need till the next job, but I use tools all the time that their purpose wasn’t really meant for the job so who knows. Thanks again!
